The power usage of e-ink in e-readers is very small and those screens are much bigger. Whether it can be done economically is another matter.

Tri-color E-Ink Electronic Shelf Label only cost around USD 20.

And whether it would be accepted in the current camera market, which seems dominated by the not so young….

Let X-Pro series continue with traditional retro dials, other go to E-ink dials 😛

No thanks

Doesn't worry. IMO innovation that Fujifilm will apply to next X-Pro series only limited to :

  • 40MP BSI-CMOS X-Trans sensor
  • up to 15 frames per second using the mechanical shutter
  • Similar to Leica M10-D, remove entire rear LCD screen (no longer broken LCD ribbon). Small LCD status panel still exists.

Can't you use the Q menu in addition to the C-modes?

Choose your functional settings with the C Modes

Then choose your visual style with the Q Menu.

No.
Access to C1-C7 removed from Q menu. Now via dial.

You can set a custom button to film simulations.  I suppose you could just change the defaults for those.  Also, if you get the Fuji X Raw Studio you can do whatever you want with the image when you get home.   I usually set my camera to Pro Negative STD as it is among the latest profiles the camera has and then I'll just turn them into TIFF or HEIF with the changes I want in post-processing.

Left d-pad is film simulations for me.

Willing upgrade to X-Pro 4 (not much change)?

If $1999 Fujifilm X-Pro 4's new features only above, are consumer willing to upgrade?

Depending on the details - a worthy upgrade.

The M10-D screen is a good idea actually but only if Fujifilm can write app that will effectively support it.  My Pro3 screen stays closed most of the time.  The only times it is not is when I make some significant menu dive.  Most minor changes are done using the VF.  I might drop down the display after I get finished and look at a few shots - but certainly no chipping.

Since I started using the Q2M, I have grown to appreciate what a good companion app (Leica Fotos) for quick reviews and quick downloads of either jpeg of raw that just works, etc.

As for the Pro4, the updated 40 MP sensor and processor are a given.  I also expect some improvements in the OVF, maybe larger and brighter.  I expect the EVF will be updated based on the XH2 technology.  If they removed the display (which would be fine with me) - then they might be some room for IBIS without making the camera larger.  IMO trading the display for IBIS and not increasing weight or size would be a good thing.

But we will soon see.

It depends on how many budget allocated on smartphone app development.

Fujifilm can write good enough apps (e.g. Instax Mini apps).

As long as the app only sync via Bluetooth, it will fast (enough for JPEG/HEIF, Bluetooth support up to 2Mbps) and reliable.

Em...rear LCD no require if Hybrid EVF enough good.

Em...It depends on how much Fujifilm want spend apps.

Can't hope too much.

X-Processor only 2 times faster than previous X-Processor 4. May be another Nikon Z6 vs Z6 II (dual processor).

X-Processor 4 normally pair with 26MP sensor.

High resolution of 40MP sensor will put high pressure on X-Processor 5. In other words, 40MP sensor + X-Processor 5 may only featuring X-T4 like EVF due to processor not enough fast for high refresh rate EVF.

If they removed the display (which would be fine with me) - then they might be some room for IBIS without making the camera larger. IMO trading the display for IBIS and not increasing weight or size would be a good thing.

Agree.
