Is the fujifilm iOS app really that terrible?

Hi!

I just got hold of an X100V that will be shipped to me tomorrow, just in time for our vacation next week. Is the app capable and reliable of transferring images to my iPhone or iPad or should I get an SD to lightning/usb-c instead?

for me the app is not very reliable and transfers are slow. An SD adapter is probably better.

I never had any problem with it, don't know why everyone complaint about it.

There are many workaround if you phone refused to connect, and keeping the file 3M is a good idea as the transmitting can take quite a while.

Personally I use an Apple SD card reader plugged into my iPad.

I have used the Fuji App but found it to be quite slow and quirky.

Out of my 3 camera brands, Fuji is the worst unfortunately.

Why Fujifilm Instax series smartphone app seem like better? created by different department?

I use it here and there to pull jpgs to my phone to post random places. I find if I start the Wi-Fi on the camera, connect the phone to it, then open the app I don’t have issues.

It could potentially work as your primary workflow but I prefer using a dedicated card reader.

In my experience using several different iPhones, the Fuji app is an embarrassment to the brand.

I use it with android, and find it pretty bad. It will only work for me with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and location enabled and the app in the foreground. Even then, about half of the images that I transmit from the camera fail to import and have to be resent. Occasionally, the whole thing gets stuck in some sort of loop, and I have no idea how to kill it. I start rebooting and yanking batteries and after a few days it's back to normal

Re: Is the fujifilm iOS app really that terrible?

I have used the app with both Android and iOS. I have updated firmware from both iOS and Android. I didn't have any issues.

May be they have updated the app. May be I am among the lucky users who didn't face any issues.

But eventually, I have settled in for using a USB-C cable for Android and a card reader for iOS since they let me copy the RAF files, the app only gets me JPEG.

On Android, if you connect using a type C cable, you even get a Lightroom Mobile prompt to import directly into Lightroom which I use sometimes.

If you want to avoid frustrations and enjoy your vacation- get a card reader.

Other camera maker launched card reader that native support both smartphone and camera, no need take out SD card from card reader.

Yes it is that terrible. Reliability and usability are bad.

Buy a SD reader. Together with Apples (new) file browser you can have a nice mobile workflow.

It works fine on my Android. Not the fastest in transfer speeds, and not the most elegant user interface. But it connects reliably and quickly, and transfers images reliably.

I don't use it often, but when I do, it does the trick.

Had the same question in a similar thread some months ago… obviously it’s different department, can’t explain it otherwise.

No matter if it did work flawlessly - all the WiFi transfer from camera are painfully slow.  The Leica app is a pleasure to use.  It just works.  For a quick transfer or a couple jpegs or a raw - it's okay.  But to transfer 100 47 MP raw files - it is way too slow.  The PCAutosave PC/Mac app that uses your home WiFi - way too slow to be useful.

Pop the card out, download in a few seconds and go back out.

I don't think the app is great, but tbh it's always worked fine for me. I would get the SD to lightning/usbc connector as well. I use both. The connector is super fast and works great, but in a pinch I've never had an issue with the app.

note: I have android, not ios, but the experience i suspect is the same

It used to work really well for a while until the operating system on my phone was updated. After that it stopped working and I was stuck to using cards readers and cables. Then two days ago I updated my firmware on my X-Pro3 (I was about three updates behind) and all of a sudden, the app worked again!!

until ...

my phone did an automatic operating system upgrade overnight and now the Camera Remote app no longer works and I'm back to schlepping cables and card readers around again.

I had two whole days where it worked like a charm (for JPS's only, it doesn't import RAW files).

So, is it terrible? Well, when it works it works very well, simple to use. When it doesn't, it's about as useful as a chocolate fireguard.
