Nice.  I've been using a 'regular' x-drop for a while, really like it - much better than a comparably-sized popup.

Can you tell if the full 8-foot width is available when extended to less than 8-foot height (such as in an ordinary residential room)?

Good question. Other than that, I like it.

A wider and better 8ft version has been available for years, under the studio assets brand in the US and a Calumet identical version I have owned in the UK for quite a while.  Much prefer the pockets to the grommets of the westcott, which I have also used.

Biggest benefit over a steel rimmed pop up is you can wash them and it's square cornered, rather than rounded corners.

I'm going to suggest that the biggest benefits are in fact two:

- it won't explode open in a crowded room, knocking things over.

- it does not require an advanced degree in topology to re-pack. Seriously, I can taco the popups back to size, but many people just can't and that limits things.

And a distant third:

- the stand is built-in.

Cool, didn't know that: https://studio-assets.com/studio/backgrounds-and-tents/pxb-pro-systems-and-kits

The original one can be less tall either by leaning it back a bit or shortening the lower legs, although that also can result in ripples in the material (since it is no longer taut). You can't shorten the top 'legs' because that narrows the width of the hooks and would result in unacceptable ripples / wrinkles.

The "pro" has the same design, so I imagine the same things would apply.

I've got one of those. It works well in a commercial space, but the height is 8-feet, a pain in the butt to set up in a normal residential room.

I should have  ordered sooner.   I I’ve got a 100 pax headshot gig to do soon.
