Panasonic GX10

What’s my chances of seeing one, so far not good?

I have a gx7 (20mm, 15mm and recently acquired 42.5.mm) I skipped the newer camera models, thief didn’t bring much to the party except for a couple of nibbles.

The reason I came to the form is to figure out what to get as my gx7 is pretty much as had it too many doss houses while travelling for a decade. As you can gather I am not used to buying camera gear even though this camera helped me acquire a substantial sum of money whilst floating around the planet.

OM/ Olympus are out of the question I shoot manual focus b&w and with focus peeking the Pen reverts to colour on the screen ugh!

not many choices I guess a used GX7 or Gx9 or maybe it’s off the Leica or Fuji land I have not really looked at what is around due to lack of interest. Any ideas?

ps I also extensively shoot a film Contax T2 now a T3 as the T2 died of natural causes

I kind expect to see one in the next year, no reason, just feel XD

I think many stayed like you with the gx7, personally I loved the gx80, so I'd probably buy one of those or a gx9, I'd go used.

the x-pro series from fuji, sounds like a good match for you, physically quite large though vs a gx camera.

like the x-pro, leica also sound like a good match for you, if that an option, why not? the leica's like the x-pro are kinda heavy vs the gx series, you do get a heavier build with the fuji or leica.

ps I also extensively shoot a film Contax T2 now a T3 as the T2 died of natural causes

the only other one to look at might be the gx8, bigger and heavier than the gx7/gx80/gx9 but that gets you a mag alloy build with WR.

About Zero chances, unfortunately.

The X-S10 is probably a better match. PASM, IBIS, nice grip, not as big sa the other.

GX85

Just bought GX85 for a very good price.

Wonder how long could it serve before it’s getting outdated

GX7 II is one you can consider

You can look at the GX7 II and GX7 III.

Here is my GX7 II/GX85/GX80 user review.  I mostly cover stuff that is not mentioned in other reviews:

https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/63703723

I added updates in the thread as I discovered more stuff.

I have some contacts. Apparently the directive at Panasonic is shift away from small cameras and that includes unfortunately these models.

Though I had concluded already that the GM5 was a done line, that is a confirmed deal. And Panasonic directly publicly confirmed a successor to the LX100 II will be a forever wait (they blamed the rise of cellphones here).

Consider how old is the GX85 and GX9 also, we should have seen one by now.

Sad, the GM5 would probably be my favorite m43rds camera, and a current up to date model would take that crown again easily.

My only hope is that if Panasonic is serious about m43rds they see opportunity now that the competition has shrunk, to re-visit smaller models again.

I'm gonna wait another year, if nothing, I'll buy a few gx9's or gx80's and call it a day.

With them developing 2 systems both with plenty of releases, I'm not gonna trust anybodies tea leaves

This is not Olympus we're talking about. Panasonic doesn't say one thing, then go do the exact opposite. There's more still cameras coming, they're committed to m4/3. And a full lineup.

Its already 'outdated' tbh.

BUT my goodness how could such a fantastic camera ever really be outdated, IMO never.

I had to give mine away, I'd pretty much not touched my G9 since buying a GX80 XD

Its a really good start to a kit thats very much 'in the spirit' of mft IMO.

The GX80 is my favorite camera.

They stated it in this interview:

https://www.imaging-resource.com/news/2020/08/20/panasonic-interview-covid-development-full-frame-micro-four-thirds

I quote the interesting part: "Yes, as I said, this category (compact cameras) is affected by the smartphone's expansion. But still, there are people who continue to use this model. But we have to admit that this category will be going down. And so as a camera business, we have to decide the priority of the development resources, which category is the most important. We have to study for the future."

That's from 2020. The link I posted was from Feb this year.

I think there will be another GX model coming, but as with all camera manufacturers the release cycle has slowed down a bit from what it used to be so it might be a while off yet. But that's not a bad thing in my view.

I think the GX9 would be a decent upgrade over your GX7. The form factor is pretty much identical but you get a 20MP sensor, a dedicated EC dial, updated venus engine and menus.

I like the look of the Fujifilm rangefinder-style cameras but none of them have IBIS which I would not like to be without having enjoyed it on my Panasonic cameras.
