G3X: Teleconverters are actually not that bad.

Below image is taken with a G3X at max zoom 600mm equiv.

Together with the Sony VCL-DH1774 1.7x, it gives you 1020mm equiv.

The image was taken indoors and handholded so probably I could have done better but just a fast and short test of what teleconverters are capable of.

What impresses me is that with the teleconverter, it still retains a lot of the original quality of the picture.

Without TC

With TC 1.7x

That's interesting and thanks for posting. I'm wondering if the IQ would be similar with a 1200 mm crop compared to the extender.

Will this fit on a sx50?

Available?

Amazed that a lens placed in front works.

To me the IQ is identical, not even cropping but pixel peeping, I just can't tell the difference.

But by cropping you're going to get a smaller size image.

The advantage that the teleconverter gives, is that you get an image size equivalent to the original (without teleconverter)

I won't recommend these type of lenses for the sx50, unless you can fit a tube adapter like the Panasonic fz300 (to minimize weight from the mechanical zoom lens)

For the above test I just hand holded the teleconverter infront of the G3X. It was just an experiment. Sort of like this: https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/59585354

As for the teleconverter itself, you can try to find them on the used market. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the branded names, just stay away from the generic stuff.
