RESULTS: *** Mini-Challenge #701 Not of this Earth (maybe?) ***

There weren't as many submissions this time as in some previous MCs, but some very interesting shots nonetheless.

Honorable Mentions

Richard's Pilot's Halo - A phenomena not too many earthbound Earthlings may have seen. I remember the first time I saw it when I was flying right seat in a Civil Air Patrol flight years ago. Really neat.

Steve's "turn the corner" contrails - I've seen this type of thing before and it always makes me wonder what's up. At least one time (9/11) something truly was up... Wow.

Roger's Super Moon - Great detail, great contrast and most definitely not of this Earth.

Irv's moon rock - What can I say, I like dark photos. The contrast, detail and even the orange / red light overhead add to the mystery.

Second place

Roger's capture of the 2017 total solar eclipse - Rare, unusual and other-worldly... All three adjectives apply to total solar eclipses. I also like the touch of color where the prominence stands out in front of the ghostly chromosphere.

First place

Richard's capture of a mountain "sky shadow" - I love atmospheric phenomena. Sunset and sunrise shadows are just cool, even the "Belt of Venus" that's seen just after sunset. This is a particularly dramatic capture of a mountain shadow. Well done!
