Something is off with Lightroom GH6 Support
2

We did some test with Bill Claff on the GH6 and we had considerable levels of read noise showing as well into all images of the camera

Now with DxO support I have compared the dark frames with read noise at ISO 100 and 800 between lightroom and DxO having DxO noise reduction set to off and other ways

The results are really strange in order to compare I produce a 16 Bits sRGB TIFF from both and calculate read noise as deviations from black value. Lightroom has the default noise reduction as by adobe processing

ISO 100

Lightroom Noise estimates: 136 118 124 avg 126

DxO Noise estimates  NR OFF            61 28 52 avg 47.51

DxO Noise estiamate NR HQ              18 17 22 avg 19.1

Delta in stops between LR and DxO NR OFF = 1.4

Delta in stops between LR and DxO HQ = 2.72

Looks like lightroom demosaic is adding noise to the camera images.

Am going to reprocess now some old files with DxO to see how they turn out

This is consistent at ISO 800 with a gap from HQ of 2.77 Ev

Need to do more investigations however this is smelling badly

An interesting post to me and all GH6 users, but what are you saying in layman's terms.

Thanks in advance.

LR is cr@p at GH6 raw conversions

I appreciate the simplicity and brevity of your contribution but would still like to hear from the OP on the issue, the evidence and any potential solutions.

Kind regards

Gnine is correct and there is no solution other than using something else

Very interesting that is Lightroom not the GH6.   I just went away for a long weekend and it was the first time I used my GH6 for photography extensively.   I plugged them into LR and was immediately struck by the large amount of noise.   It was never really an issue with other MFT cameras for me until you hit ISO 3200 or 6400.   I am curious how they will look after processing and Topaz Denoise.   The GH6 is turning out to be a hard camera to love.

The camera has noise especially at Low ISO however lightroom optimisation is the pits basically they got it wrong

Re: Something is off with Lightroom GH6 Support

I don't see it.  I downloaded DPR RAW sample from the low light studio scene and compared in LR versus PhotoLab.  Looked at ISO 200, 400 and 3200.  NR in both apps turned off.  Both look very close, and I actually prefer the LR image.  PhotoLab has more splotchy noise while LR is more fine grained.  I'm not arguing the accuracy of your technical test.  I just don't see it visually.  This is my first time trialing photolab so I could be doing something wrong.  I just chose the "DXO optical corrections only" preset.

On a side note, I'd be curious to see what photolab NR can do with gh6.  Just playing around with deep prime, I'm not liking it at all. My first impression is that their NR optimization for gh6 is not there yet.

Pureraw corrects vignetting so the results are not

Re: Something is off with Lightroom GH6 Support

Good to know, I've seen examples with other cameras where images appear noiser with light room versus other software.

Did you report it to Adobe?
