The best one I've ever had in terms of photography was Google Pixel 3. So I assume they've gotten better and better since then. I'd also recommend checking on OnePlus phones.

Most prefer a phone camera that takes the photo. Sony Xperia are a hoot for me but most wouldn't like it. Those who would probably like it are familiar with it. Sony Xperia series gets plenty of exposure.

I've had Pixels since before they were Pixels and up to Pixel 3. I was bored.

I use a Mac laptop and iPad, so I have an iPhone for general use. The camera is fine as a point & shoot, but not for crafting photos, at least not for me. l may get an Xperia phone in the future. I’m hoping Sony will offer more models with a larger sensor by then.
