200d + Canon Speedlite = No Exposure Simulation!

I just wanted to vent some of my frustration regarding Canon disabling features.

I primarily do macro photography and heavily rely on using my view finder when in flash-mode. Exposure-sim allows me to remain in a comfortable and stable position while photographing my subjects (plants and insects).  Without exposure-sim, I must have my eye to the viewfinder, which often means I need to contort my body and provide additional light in order to focus.

I have two third party flashes which get little use as they are not compatible with exposure-sim, so I always just use the inbuilt flash.

Anyway, I contact Canon to have them confirm if their speed lights will work without disabling exposure-sim before I decide to purchase one and they told me that even their own brand of flash will disable exposure-sim. It's so disappointing to me that this is the case. This can be bypassed using Magic Lantern, but ML isn't available for the 200D!!

It's so silly, I'm sure this would be a matter of flicking a software switch.
