Old Aurora Colony Museum
2

This past Saturday on a dark gloomy day, I was planning to go to an event, but it was too crowded and may have been sold out. So I went to something else. I decided to visit the area where Joe Meek had a reunion in 1874, about one year before he died. This was Aurora, Oregon. For this series, I'll just show what I saw at the Old Aurora Colony Museum. Around that town, there's a lot of other historic buildings.

Photo No. 1 - For those that would like to visit the town, here's the directory.  I concentrated my time at the building identified as no. 2, which was the museum.

Photo No. 2 - Here is what the Old Aurora Colony Museum looks like on the outside.

Photo No. 3 - Across from this museum, were these beautifully restored homes.

Photo No. 4 - Inside the museum, there were displays like this.

Photo No. 5 - In the yard adjacent to the museum, there were these nice tables and benches with a herb garden nearby.

Photo No. 6 - In another building separate from the museum, I could see these old tools.

Photo No. 7 - Here's another view of what was seen above.

Photo No. 8 - In another building there was this old wagon.

Photo No. 9 - There's an interesting story about this wagon, if you want to read about it below.

Photo No. 10 - Near the wagon, were these mill stones that were broken.  At one time, they ground down wheat and other grains.

Photo No. 11 - I think that's a bed frame in the center.

Photo No. 12 - And finally another wagon or buggy....  I hope you liked the series.

Daisies

The ox-eye daisies are out (it's pretty early).

PLEASE NOTE: All pics were taken with canon eos 600d + 18-55mm IS STM lens.

PLEASE NOTE: I captured these as RAWs, and then converted them in LRc without any adjustments. I kinda liked the dark background.

This one's sorta different. I took it from below, and like the slightly high-key result.

Old Aurora Colony Museum - Thanks

Thanks.  There's so much to see and not enough time to see all of it.  It's amazing how much is already in our "backyard" if we just spend the time to search for it.

Re: Daisies

These are very nice.  I like that the white pedals are clean and free from blemishes.  The black background works very well.

I agree with you and Digi.  The dark background sets the flower off nicely.

Hi Digirame,

Love the old tool rooms, it's funny how most of those tools are still in use today by craftsmen. Great set.

Thanks.  I'm glad you liked it.  How they traveled, farmed and worked was so much different.

Re: Llandrindod Wells, Wales.

Wow...what a variety...great stuff! I loved seeing the Welsh countryside.  The Red Kite hawks are so much different than what we see here.  I'm impressed that you could not only take a nice photo of the butterfly, but you could ID it as well.  You make great use the Tamron 150-600mm lens.  The hawk looks sharp.  I just love that last picture.  It looks so peaceful.

Great set Mocha.  The Welsh landscape looked well manicured.  Sheep ?

The photo of the sunset and lake is superb.  Well done.

Re: Llandrindod Wells, Wales.

Beautiful shots mocha123.

I (we) went on a recent 5-day trip to Derbyshire, and, in Oxfordshire, we saw red kites (only one at a time) flying over a busy service-station!

It was a strange way to get me first sighting of a kite!

Don

Thanks.

The background is so dark because the sun was approaching the golden hour, and the flower was a lot higher than the ground so it was it the sun, whilst the ground wasn't.

Re: Llandrindod Wells, Wales.

Hi Digirame, Thank you.

It's been about 15 years since I last visited Wales so I enjoyed the time there and knowing it's the place to be to see the Red Kites was even more incentive to visit, I was lucky the first day to have great lighting and the Kites were flying over the campsite I was staying at. The second day I got more shots but the lighting was less favourable.

I find the Tamron 150-600mm easier to focus on flying birds if I first focus on nearby trees then pick up the birds outline, it focuses easier then and locks on well to the subject, it's not the easiest lens to get on with but it gets me photos I couldn't otherwise dream of.

Re: Llandrindod Wells, Wales.

Hi Ontarian, Thank you.

You're right, every field you look into there's sheep. It took me hours to photoshop them out.
