Just upgraded from M100 to M200....Pleasantly surprised!
15

I've had the M100 since around 2020 and have enjoyed taking everyday pics, family pics, landscape, etc. I think it's a fantastic camera. Wasn't jazzed on the video, so took a leap and got an original M to shoot magic lantern. Fun, frustrating, etc.

I'm not a pro but wanted a bit better AF and the ability to shoot 4K video was nice (I know the limitations, of which there are many).

All that to say I just got the M200 in the mail and I'm very happy so far.

Pluses:

+ AF is much improved! Seems to stick to faces better and the extra AF points are nice.

+ Menus and overall camera seems faster than M100.

+ Interested in trying the 4K video more.

+ Silent mode! Works better than I expected....albeit with some limitations.

All this to say, if anyone has an M100 and is thinking of upgrading, I recommend it. I'm sure the M6 Mkii is leaps and bounds better but my budget couldn't afford it.

Cheers!

Dave

(Here are a few with the 22mm and 15-45mm from my first day with the camera....)

Thanks for the nice review.  I'm an M6ii user who recently bought an M200 for a walkabout camera, and I too am very impressed with the M200. Image quality isn't very far behind the M6ii and I find that using the rear touch screen to set the settings on the M200 to be so easy that it's changing the way I use the M6ii!

I use the M200 especially to take 4k video through my telescope of the planets. Since the M200's video is cropped to the center of the frame at pixel resolution, I'm getting maximum magnification from the telescope. This works great, but the M200 overheats after only 10-15 min of 4k resolution video and needs quite a cool down period before it will shoot 4k video again.

Otherwise, having such a powerful camera in such a tiny package is wonderful ---- it's so small and light on the telescope, plus it fits in my pocket even with the EF-M 18-150mm lens on it, although the M200 with the 22mm f2 or EF-M 15-45mm is optimal for pocketability!

i have plan to trade my Canon M3 for M200 for smaller form factor and lighter weight, pair with 11-22. How do you feel about the build quality? i don't mind plastic as long as it's dense and solid enough in hand.

Bulls quality seems nice to me. It is a different type of plastic than the M100 but overall feels pretty solid.

I’m not finding much that I don’t like:

+ focus peaking is weaker than M100

+ connecting to iPhone is MUCH better on M200

I like the build quality of the M200 a lot, and really like the surface. Even though it's black plastic it looks and feels more like metal. I actually prefer it to the M6 Mark ii which is rubberized, and after 1.5 years of hard use has dulled somewhat and feels a little slippery.

And oddly, even though the M200 doesn't have the deep grid the M6ii has, I find holding it and using it to be no issue at all, even though I have big hands. the texture of the patterned surface and the top trim is rough enough to get a really good grip.
