MC-20 and 40-150mm 2.8 with OM-1

I spent the last three days camped in the Snake River canyon in Idaho with the MC-20 and 40-150mm 2.8 on my OM-1. The MC-20 did not slow down the AF appreciably, and target acquisition was fairly quick and consistent for birds in range. Almost all my photos were at 600mm equivalent, and wide open. Shutter speed was 1/2000 since I was shooting mainly birds of prey, too slow for flying songbirds. For birds 200 yards or more across the canyon I had to crop heavily and use Topaz to sharpen, denoise, and upsize. Light was poor until full sunlight. Subject recognition worked well unless flying birds were too far away to recognize, or moving across an exceptionally busy background. I used all focal points and C-AF without tracking. All photos were definitely softer than MC-14, but with the extra reach it's well worth sharpening in post. All in all, a great improvement over my E-M1 Mk II with the same lens/TC, but it makes me even more determined to buy the 300mm Pro lens.

It's a challenging gear combination and you've done a super job with these!

No qualms recommending the 300 Pro; it's the longest prime we have and pairs nicely with both MCs. Dual-IS comes into play at those FLs and I notice its missing when I shoot the zoom and MC20.

Cheers,

Rick
