EVF-DC1 vs EVF-DC2

Ladies and gents,

As the topic implies; curious from those who have used or use both, which they prefer, why, etc.

I've used both myself, and granted I have a EVF-DC1 on it's way, but, that doesn't mean I can't change my mind.

My hunch says that EVF-DC1 will pair better with the 15-45 when slung.

I really found the EVF-DC2 to be very crisp and contrasty, and glasses friendly.

Also, my time with the EVF-DC1 was all when using older Canon's, the G1X Mark II and EOS M3. I wonder is it more useful on a faster Canon?

Thoughts?

Apparently the EVF-DC1 provides a larger coverage than the EVF-DC2. It's LCD vs LED I might add. The former will be more power hungry. The latter, less, and more contrast presumably. I don't like how the EVF-DC2 "digs" into my back when slung with lighter lenses. The 22 pancake and 15-45 come to mind, some of my favorites I might add.

I do recall the eye-detection of the EVF-DC1 was somewhat problematic and my eye-cup came off one of em, which isn't replaceable I might add. Canon doesn't make that part separately as I learned when that happened.

l carried my 100L all day long with m6II and EVF-DC2 slung on my shoulder with a flexible bungy type op tech strap and didn't even notice I was carrying this setup while I used my RP + RF 24-105 L on my black rapid shoulder strap

1) suggest evaluating when to use evf and when not - I know the long tele's are better with one - but a 22, why use evf

2) suggest evaluating your sling against something else like a jacket pocket or belt bag with a wrist strap on the camera

I never resort to a neck strap

I have both, but almost never use them. And never with short lenses like the 22mm and the 15-45mm. The tilt screen is great and gives me much more flexibility and interesting angles than a camera pressed to the face. I use a hand strap, my pockets or a small belt case, but never "slung".

I have the DC1, only. Never used the version 2.

On paper their specs look alike.

DC1 is okay wearing glasses and I love the tilt up Feature a lot. I use EVF a lot in bright light or, for tele settings.

I used mine with a Peak Design strap with one of the ends attached to the included tripod mounting plate. This way the camera always faces down when slung over a shoulder, regardless of lens.

I have both. These days,  I almost only use the 2, as I find it somewhat superior, particularly in very bright light, where the 1 tends to crumple into a soot and whitewash look.

The huge advantage of the 1 is the pivoting eyepiece - I say "huge" advantage, it's really quite a rarely-needed advantage, but when you need it, it's really handy.

Re: EVF-DC1 vs EVF-DC2

I like the “view” of the DC-1 better (it’s less contrasty), but if you’re shooting action, the DC-2 has a faster refresh rate.

That said, I only use an EVF when using long telephotos, and like the others much prefer to shoot with just the back LCD.  (Personal preference)

I appreciate the answers...

I'm giving the EVF-DC1 a shot, but, the loss of contrast and refresh is going to have me weigh the pros and cons here; this isn't a 1 horse race like I initially suspected. Devils is in the details...

.

Regarding straps and whatnot; that I've really not had good luck with. Any strap worth a heck of beans, has too much weight... When resting an M6 on a table top, heavy straps cause it to lean/pull.

.

Question; I don't like Black Rapid or Black Rapid-like solutions... Dangling is a no-no, I'm too much on the go with my kids. Camera ends up banging against things while it's "flopping around"

Wrist straps don't stick to me; has to be in the hand at all times. That works somewhat with a lean Powershot, but on an M? I can answer that without trying, no. It's annoying as it is on the G5X II.

Solutions like PD where you have a slot that you can tie to say a belt, doesn't work either for similar reasons.

So, is there perhaps another light-weight strap I should be considering? See my problem? I've run this track a couple times to no avail. I've learned through experience that the default strap is the best be it on my M, PowerShot or R. The PowerShot G5X II's wrist strap is (somewhat) do-able because of how light the camera is (and the strap is virtually non-existent too) and I pocket it when I don't want to hold it. The M can't pocket with most lenses, and isn't quite as light. I also found the wrist strap/pocket or put in pouch on my belt, not efficient for quick access. Strap wins.

This is how I end up with an "inferior" EVF-DC1... *sigh* ...and the default strap. It's light and non-existent too and the camera "sticks" to you. I sling it in reverse on my back for comfort though or over the chest, never on the neck.

Am I missing anything I should consider? I'm up for a third option, but I think I've burned my options and the strap is the least of evils.

Re: EVF-DC1 vs EVF-DC2

I have 2 m6ii bodies and both a 1 and a 2 EVF.

Mostly i prefer the 2 but the 1 is really handy on a tripod and shows more detail in the shadows.

I would like the 1 better if it locked in the down position and did not tend to ride up going in and out of the camera bag and even bumping against my ahirt on a strap. That is the only reason I prefer the 2 if I don't need the tilt for shooting.

The 1 looks better on the camera.

the other thing I did was attach a small key ring to one side of the camera strap holders and then attach both strap ends to the one key ring

I don't even hardly feel anything

I'm a huge fan of Op/Tech straps, use them on most of my cameras. The wrist strap is great on the M200, I use the neck strap on the M6 Ii.

my black rapid is my event go to but not good for everyday.  My op tech with key ring and both ends hooked to key ring on left side then slung over my left shoulder with m6II works great - I don’t even notice it is there and it doesn’t get in the way and it doesn’t bump folks or furniture - a true great comfort strap

Agreed - 1 is pretty good except for this issue of opening up unexpectedly.  I never use the tilt up feature, so maybe 2 would be better for me.

However I just don’t use the external EVF that much.

That is the only reason I prefer the 2 if I don't need the tilt for shooting.

The 1 looks better on the camera.

I have both. I like the DC1 much more because it matches the contrast and look of the large display on the M6ii, where as the DC2 does not - it has significantly more contrast.  I need both displays to match when flicking between the two.  I can't have everything looking darker and more contrasty when I hold it up to my eye.

I also like the flip up design over the fixed-in-place one of the DC2. The DC2 to me felt like a big downgrade from the DC1 - something I was not expecting.
