L-Bracket for the EOS R7

It's probably a bit too early to ask for such a thing (the EOS R7 is pre-order at this point), but once I get my hands on one I'll need an L-bracket that fits it. Specifically, I want to be able to mount the camera on a tripod in either landscape or portrait orientation for macro work. I currently use an EOS M6 Mark II with a SmallRig LCC2516 L-Bracket, and that combination works great for my purposes.

Has anyone come across an L-bracket that fits the R7?

It usually takes a while for the L-brackets to come out. I would imagine the manufacturers first need to get ahold of a camera so they can measure it and then design and manufacture a bracket to fit it. You might want to check some websites to see if anyone has a production date listed.

Thanks for responding. I checked the Web sites of companies that I know of that make things like L-brackets before posting my question, but nothing showed up yet. I'm hoping someone else here might have better luck as the R7 emerges into the real world.

Hi Larry, i have purchased L-bracket for all of my dslrs from RRS and i am very happy with them - but they are a bit pricey, though, but worth looking into.

Best.

I might suggest going a step further, and asking via phone/chat/email when companies will be releasing their bracket.  Its important that companies know there is a market...they may not assume there is one to fill.

Excellent idea; can't hurt to plant a bug in their ear.

Sunwayfoto will most probably release one pretty quickly. I have one for my R6 and 90D. They are very good because they don't prevent any access to buttons, batteries, doors etc like some of the cheaper ones sometimes do.

I have SmallRig L brackets for both my R5s. As you have one for your M6ii look out for one from them. Good bits of kit.

They seem to be abandoning L-brackets, which is a pity, as their are very nice. They were the first to have one for R5, too.

Three legged thing don’t have a dedicated one yet but probably will. The Ellie will probably fit - https://www.3leggedthing.com/uk/ellie-universal-lbracket-system.html

I am sure all the usual brands will have dedicated ones quite soon after availability of the camers.

You might try the Kirk Universal L-Bracket (small), $60 at B&H, with access to control and battery door.  Let us know if you it works.

Since my R7 finally arrived I am also in search of an L-bracked (hopefully with arca swiss base and removable vertical part as I have it for my R5)

Re: L-Bracket for the EOS R7

I picked up the Ellie Short PD to use with my Peak Design clip. It partially works. The lower bracket allows access to the battery door. Unfortunately, the cut-out for the flip screen is just a bit off. The screen won't open fully to the side. Not an issue for me since I just have it facing out from the back for my birding needs.

The Ellie Short is the same minus the built in PD piece. The lower bracket is Arca Swiss compatible but it is lacking any mounting screws. For either version, the side bracket is removable. 3 Legged Thing also just sells the base plate in both versions.

RRS gear is excellent but very expensive. Anyone willing to spend that amount of money for an L-bracket might also keep on eye on PromediaGear. It's the only L-bracket I could find for my R5 that has offset of the vertical part of the bracket to allow full articulation of the rear panel. The vertical part is also removable.  They may release something similar for the R7.

Re: L-Bracket for the EOS R7

(OP here). I'm still waiting for somebody to offer an L-bracket that custom-fits the R7. The only outfit so far that even claims to have something similar is SmallRig, which makes the "Black Mamba" cage for the R7 and the R10. The Black Mamba gadget doesn't fit my needs out of the box (all I want  is an L-bracket, without all the extra armatures and attachment points for video and microphones and such). I would have to purchase a separate Arca Swiss bracket to attach to the side of the cage for it to do want I need, and I don't want the extra bulk (or cost, for that matter).

I've checked every day for weeks on the SmallRig, ProMediaGear, Really Right Stuff, Sunwayfoto and 3 Legged Thing Web sites, and at least so far none are offering what I need.

Harrumph.

Larry, we have to realize that R7/R10 just came out, it takes sometime to see accessories show up on the shelves. so i'd wait until i hear about it and go from there

I got basically the same advice a couple of months ago. No choice but to try to wait patiently, but that won't stop me from griping. I keep hoping somebody at one of those companies might read this thread and realize there's money to be made.
