I can't change the language on my Canon EOS KISS

Hi,

After changing my camera's date/time battery, the language changed to Japanese (I suppose). I've tried to change to English but it doesn't change. Battery indicator flashes, reset occurs, but remains in Japanese language. I already reset the camera settings but problem still there.

Has anyone gone through this problem?

Thanks.

The menu

It's in the menu, last icon, 3rd down.

Let me be more direct:
The camera does not obey my command to change the language, after I changed the date/time battery.

Answers like "Because your camera is a Rebel one" will not be tolerated.

What if you remove the date/time battery?

Strange.... Is your camera up to date firmware wise?

I'd tell you what the most recent version is.... only I don't actually know which model you have! I don't operate on "KISS(s)", I operate on xxxD.

300D. Made in Japan.

Firmware Ver. 1.1.1

I haven't tested all the menu. At least "image quality" and "format" are working.

When I change the language to English (I also tried Spanish), the CF card recording light comes on. But the change is not saved.

Sounds like you have the hacked firmware from 10D. If you have ISO 3200/ISO H, then it is the hacked firmware. One known issue with that firmware was about changing language.

"The camera freezes on attempt to switch the user interface language. To change the user interface language use the original firmware."

If that is the case you will need to install the real 300D firmware and then change language. You may after that install the modified firmware from 10D again if you would like that.

Sounds like Kameratrollet is correct.

I've never owned a 300d, and, while I've heard of the "10d hack", I don't know how one "does" or "undoes" the trick.

Re: Hmm........

Yes, iso H here.

I just found the original 1.1.1 firmware but installation does not start.

I think I need the first firmware. Anyone?

I sent you the firmware and installation manual, if you just check your PM.

Verify with sha256 checksum https://kameratrollet.se/use-sha256-checksum-to-verify-canon-firmware-updates/

Re: Hmm........

OH!!!

It's "E3kr111.fir"

Inside "E3kr_111-e.exe"  file

I was trying with the ".exe" file. That's why was not working.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!

Re: Hmm........

I presume that's your language problem fixed.

If so that's good.

Yes, fixed. I will keep the original 1.1.1 firmware version.

I believe the first camera owner updated to the hack version. I don't need that.

Thanks!
