Memorial Day
1

Today in the USA is Memorial Day.  I have the day off as a Holiday.

I thought I would show these flowers as a thanks and remembrance for those that served and died for our country.  Thanks for the ultimate sacrifice.

It's not all sunny days.

Hi all,

More lakeside fun.

Alongside the river bank the "Beautiful Demoiselles", trying to make the 'heart'.(Aperture f/7.1 ~~ (SS): 1/1000 ~~ ISO 2500 ~~ EC: 0 ~~ PASM Mode: Custom ~~ Metering: Partial ~~ Focus Type: AI Servo ~~ FL: 300mm ~~ Lens: Tamron SP 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di VC USD ~~ Camera ID: Canon EOS 7D Mark II).

Almost there!!!, unfortunately after this shot they got blown further upstream with the wind. So I didn't capture it this time. (Aperture f/7.1 ~~ (SS): 1/1000 ~~ ISO 2000 ~~ EC: 0 ~~ PASM Mode: Custom ~~ Metering: Partial ~~ Focus Type: AI Servo ~~ FL: 300mm ~~ Lens: Tamron SP 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di VC USD ~~ Camera ID: Canon EOS 7D Mark II).

Then the storm came...... (Aperture f/11 ~~ (SS): 1/250 ~~ ISO 100 ~~ EC: 0 ~~ PASM Mode: Aperture Priority ~~ Metering: Evaluative ~~ Focus Type: One Shot ~~ FL: 16mm ~~ Lens: Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM ~~ Camera ID: Canon EOS 7D Mark II).

No that's not noise in my photo  that's a downpour. Shortly after this photo all the leisure craft around the lake came back to shore. (Aperture f/7.1 ~~ (SS): 1/500 ~~ ISO 500 ~~ EC: 0 ~~ PASM Mode: Custom ~~ Metering: Partial ~~ Focus Type: AI Servo ~~ FL: 329mm ~~ Lens: Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD ~~ Camera ID: Canon EOS 7D Mark II).

Memorial Day - Thanks

Thanks. It's sad to hear about the wars in the world, like now in Ukraine. So many lives have been lost.

Thank you for that beautiful rose.  Yes, we shall never forget.

Re: It's not all sunny days.

Your photos are stellar as usual.  The damselflies are colorful and bright.  It's especially nice that you got out there in the rain.  I like it.  We can't let the rain stop us, even though it does make it difficult at times.

Horsetails
1

When I can, I like to show things that are unusual. Today while hiking around I noticed these Common Horsetails. They were concentrated in one area. The conditions were just right for them to grow like that.

Photo No. 1 - I first saw these...wow...I had to photograph them.

Photo No. 2 - Zoomed up some....

Photo No. 3 - Another one in the same area....

Photo No. 4 - Closer....

Photo No. 5 - Another view....

Photo No. 6 - This is what it looked like from the trees.

Photo No. 7 - They looked the best to me in open areas like this.

Photo No. 8 - I thought they were beautiful.

Photo No. 9 - I just loved the green colors.

Photo No. 10 - And one more as seen from the forested area....

Re: It's not all sunny days.

Hi Digirame, Thank you.

A bit of a panic when I got back to base after the storm, the Main control dial on the back had stopped working on my 7D MkII, I know they say they're waterproof but I suspect 7 years of regular use has diminished the resilience to water. Anyhow after much wringing of hands a removal and refit of the battery got it working again.

Re: Horsetails

Hi Digirame,

I've never seen as many in one area, you can see why they call them invasive being so dense and crowding out other plants.

Good capture.

I've been racking my brains trying to figure out how to reduce my cat's stress level.

You can tell he's just a bundle of nerves.

Thanks.  I never had seen so many like that, packed together.  I thought it was neat.

Ah, a cat's life.  I need to be like that too, as I'm so busy all of the time.

Oh how nice...I love the lily flowers.  Because it's been so cold this late spring our lilies are still dormant.
