*** Mini-Challenge #700 Nostalgia: Your Early Digital Camera Pictures ***
2

This weeks challenge is a follow up to a previous MC #644, Nostalgia: Your First Digital Camera Pictures. This current MC all about photos you took when you had one of the earlier digital cameras or your first digital camera. Therefore, IQ is not the primary criteria. Composition, an interesting subject, reliving a fond memory, or the evoking of some other type of emotion are.

Some examples will follow.

This challenge will end on Friday, June 10, 2022 at 11pm Eastern time.

Challenge Rules:

The host gives you a topic and you post up to three images that fit. Remember, it's all about fun, sharing, and learning. Any picture you have taken in person is eligible, regardless of the time taken, camera, or post-processing used. The host chooses the winners and honourable mentions and posts those in a new thread. The host's decision is final. The winner of this challenge then hosts the next challenge, judges the winner of that one, and so on it goes. The winner of this challenge will have 48 hours to post the next challenge. If that doesn't happen, 2nd place will have 24 hours to do so, then it's up to 3rd place.

Submission Posting Guidelines:

Post each one of your three submissions in its own reply to this post. Give each post a unique Subject, please. It is best to embed an image in its post rather than linking to somewhere else. Feel free to post photos "for exhibition only" if you want to share more than three, or won't be available to host the next challenge. Try to preserve the EXIF please, so we can see which camera, lens, and settings were used.

Comment Posting Guidelines:

Feel free to post comments on the images or ask for comments. Don't hesitate to click on the green "Like" thumb on the top right of the post, so we know which images were most popular. Likes are appreciated as much as constructive criticism is. The host can make up his or her own mind without being influenced by that. I wish you all "good luck" and let's see some interesting pics.

I had a little Kodak 5mp DX4530 P&S camera before my first DSLR. CA was a fact of life, but it was fun to play with. No card, just internal storage and a serial connection (IIRC) to access the images.

A view from Mt. Nebo in western Arkansas

We went to Mt. Nebo State Park near Dardanelle, Arkansas in November 2005. It's a nice little park, entirely up on the mountain with no through roads. Plus it has a nice view of the Russellville (AR) nuclear power plant!  LOL

Not every seven year old gets a ride in a Model T!

My daughter got to sit in a Ford Model T driven up the (steep!) road to the park by a local car collector. It was a thrill for her ...she'll turn 24 in August.

My "office" at the 2004 Texas Star Party

Here's my scope, canopy and whatnot at the 2004 Texas Star Party That's my new 14.5" TeleKit scope out front. Behind me were numerous other (larger!) scopes.

That’s a nice Dobsonian Scope. I still have have a 10” Coulter Odyssey I got in 1982. I met John Dobson once in the mid 80’s at an Astronomy Club meeting, very interesting man.

Thanks. It replaced a 10" f/5.6 truss Dob that I built around a Coulter mirror. The 14.5" has since been replaced by a 12" Dob, which is lighter than the 120 lb. TeleKit.

Irv's (Exhibition only)

From 2002, shot with an HP PhotoSmart 210.  This was from a visit to northern New York State. This once was my great-great grandfather's farmland.

The exif says 01/11/200, but my files say this was 2003. Shot with a Premier  DC3300 which I apparently used for two years but have no recollection of. Don't remember where this location was, either.

From 2004. Shot with a Canon Powershot A75. You may have seen photos of this location previously on the internet. It's somewhere a bit north of Des Moines, Iowa.

The HP, Premier, and Canon were my first digital cameras. After that I graduated to s Fuji superzoom, than a couple of Panasonic FZ series, and then to Canon DSLRs.

That's a beautiful sunset. But then again in the year 200 there wasn't too much commercial development to interfere with the view. That's a very early digital camera!! LOL 😂

I've only been doing digital photography for under 5 years.

I'll look at my very  first (absolutely terrible) and my first DSLR pics.

Re: *** Mini-Challenge #700 Nostalgia - My #1

First digital camera -- Fujifilm MX-1200. Purchased on December 31, 1999 as a Happy New Millenia present to myself and a brave new venture into digital photography after shooting film for 25+ years.

Not the greatest camera available at the time - camera cost $$$, P&S, 1.3MP resolution, fixed lens, SmartMedia flash cards that were astronomical in price.  Due to limited space on these cards, I was shooting 640*480 resolution so I can capture the picture, but knowing that I sacrificing size as a result.  A bad trade off looking back now.

My jump into digital was a real leap of faith on my part.

SOOC pic. Taken the evening of December 31, 1999 at my house. My son playing with my computer back in the day.

The software that came with the camera - Fujifilm Pictureshuttle wiped the EXIF information upon transfer. Serial port transfer of an 8 MB (not GB) card took forever!

One last point, I still have this camera.  Shot 22 pictures back on December 31, 2019 (20th anniversary) and they came out well, considering the age, technology of the times and how the media held up after all these years.

This statue is a representation of Claude Chana (1811-1882), the prospector who discovered gold in the foothills east of Sacramento, outside of Auburn, CA on May 16, 1848.

Located in the small town of Exeter, CA.  The entire town had these murals painted on the sides of buildings.  Just one of many.

Re: *** Mini-Challenge #700 Nostalgia - My #3

Nice set WB.

Yes, those initial digital cameras had small sensors.  I held out for my first.  It was an Olympus CZ750 and had 3.5 mp plus a 10x optical zoom.  I was amazed with the technology at the time

Doesn't matter how many times I proofread, I almost never get it right. Exif says 2000. And that's the turth.

Richard: EXHIBITION ONLY *** Mini-Challenge #700 Nostalgia: Your Early Digital Camera Pictures ***

My first Digital Camera was a Sony Cybershot I purchased in early Feb 2003, a bit of a learning curve from a film camera.

My very first photo I believe, from our backyard

My son’s Marine Corp Reserve Unit was activated for the 2003 Iraq War, he’s getting his equipment ready for his departure. He was gone for 9 months, a tough time for his mother and I. I think he said his backpack alone, not counting duffles, was 85 lbs.

Felling trees and clearing stumps at our retirement property in Oregon.
