Maxxum 800si Aperture issue

I have an 800si where the aperture tab/ring inside the camera seems to sit lower than it should, causing the lens to stop down. I can manually adjust it, it's good for a few shots, then it drops again. There is tension in either direction when using my finger so it's not loose.

Is this a common issue among Minolta AF cameras? Can it be fixed? I have no issue opening up the camera but I'll save myself the trouble if it's a lost cause.

Thanks!

I have a dozen Maxxum cameras, even a couple 800SI's.  I have never heard of this issue before.

Unfortunately, after a lot of searching online, I found out it was a pretty common issue on Minolta cameras with this aperture mechanism. I currently have three that all exhibit the same thing.

I guess consider yourself lucky.

With the exception of some of the budget models , I have all the Minolta AF SLR's , both digital ( RD-175 , Dynax 5 & 7 ) and 35mm SLR's , in the case of some , I have several copies . i.e , the Dynax 7 (x3) D9 , D5 , D700si & 600si ( x2 each ) , and for a while every used lens you bought came attached with a 7000AF or 7000i attached , so I've no idea how many of them I have lurking around !

I've been shooting AF Minolta SLR's since the early 90's and have never heard of this as a common problem , all of mine are also fine , so luck has nothing to do with it .

Unless you consider yourself particularly unlucky !

Some models are prone to certain issues , the Dynax 7 film advance and/or ( rarely ) aperture mechanism , certainly sticky rubber of the grip ( cleaned off easily with IPA ) . The Dynax 9 occasionally can have an aperture issue and the solenoid of the 9000AF aperture mechanism is frequently dead .

The hand grip on the 7000i , 8000i and 700si sometimes crumbles away , possibly a reaction to an outside agent ( insect repellent on the owners skin perhaps ? )

But certainly not a general "common issue on Minolta cameras" .
