Is there a workable way to save Burst Mode images?
2

I like my m6 mkii and can find value in the Raw Burst, but getting the images into my workflow is VERY painful...

I get that Canon want us to use DPP (which I never did) but the DPP burst tool only letting me save a single image at a time (out of a burst of over 50) is almost unusable...

New to using DPP, but is there really not a better way to just extract "all" images?  THanks for the help..

Insert card to card reader. Open, then drag & drop image folder to the desktop. Well, anyway, that is what I have been doing for the past 22 years. Then delete files from the card, ready for the next shoot.

It’s a different type of file. Raw burst hasn’t existed for 22 years.

OP, I get what you’re asking, but as a DPP4 user, I don’t know how to help. We’ve used the raw burst a handful of times and I can’t recall one where more than a couple were worth extracting and saving. Not sure if there’s a way to do more than one at a time.

Sigh...  Its a really cool feature but the extraction issue means I will probably only use it a couple times also...

Ya I do that also, however with the burst mode, all the shots are embedded into a single CR3 file that only DPP4 can read.  The issue is then that DPP4 burst utility will only export a single image at a time...  takes forever to save all the burst shots for use.

Ah yes: Now I understand. Thanks you for your reply.

I have never used this burst mode, although I've had the M6II since it came out. I've often been curious about it. Do you have to use DPP on the computer to extract the RAWs, or is there a way to do it in camera? I haven't used DPP in many years.

You can extract the files in camera.  I can’t recall if they’re extracted as jpegs or raws off hand, but the will be separate files.   Still just one at a time though.

THanks I played around with it...  it is better (faster) than DPP4 and you can save as raw or jpeg but yup only one at a time...  hard to understand why you could not just select all and save all..

I use raw-burst a lot, since I only use electronic shutter. It is a pain in the neck. You can select multiple shots (the tiny buttons next to the right and left arrows), but when you save them, DPP combines them into a single file again. So in the end, the extracted file is a smaller CR3 raw burst file, with fewer shots, but still all shots selected combined. Why would it combine everything into a single file when extracting multiple shots? It is impossible to understand its logic. It is a very poor implementation, and could be easily fixed with an update for DPP. It is also a bummer that Lightroom does not support extraction. Adobe probably has to reverse-engineer the format, and they do not want to spend resources for an unpopular feature.

I think R2D2 used the focus bracketing feature in the M6II, for electronic shutter bursts, with success ?

There's a tips and tricks thread in here somewhere.

I think that's correct. But you don't get the pre-buffer that way, which is the main reason (for me at least) to use the RAW burst mode.

Yes I know. But the reply was to erhan0 , because he said he is only using the e-shutter. So I thought maybe this was useful for him.

Thanks a lot. I will check this. I vaguely remember some trick like that but it was not too quick to implement. My previous M6 II's shutter lasted about 250,000-300,000 shots. I know it is stupid but I stopped using the mechanical shutter so that I can use this one for a long time.  When I shoot BIF (on rare occasions), I use the raw burst. I works well but painful to work with the CR3.

an old thread, but are there updates on how to make this e-shutter raw burst implementation and processing work better?

This issues has been nagging me since I got the M6ii 3 years ago.
Back then, I figured it was going to be resolved eventually cos it is painful to extract, but even to this day none of the latest R cameras has a way to extract to single or jpeg files from the burst roll. I also was hoping for third party software to help but nothing so far AFAIK.

Now, given the smaller file size than separate files would amount for, I suspect Canon is using a Raw movie format here, probably the same they use in their high end video cameras.
If that is so, a simple crack would do the trick, like changing certain tags within the file or even changing the file name extension.
