How many (realistic) stops of IBIS on XT4 with 16-55mm: Measured and amazed
1

OK, I got my hands on a very lightly used XT4 so I decided to put this question to test.

To summarize, I am amazed at how well IBIS works. Bye tripod!

Here are some side by side comparisons. Hand held and at home; I think I have good posture and steady hands. Left is IBIS on, right IBIS off. I used 55mm on the 16-55mm to tax this issue to the max. Click on the images to magnify them.

1/60s. IBIS off starts to get blurry: this is not a speed I would use on my XT3 and at this FL. I usually aim for faster than ~1/(1.5*FL)

1/15s. IBIS off is of course useless.

1/8s at 55mm handheld! And still sharp!

1/8s: only IBIS on works

Finally, here is a shot of the same target but now with the 70-300mm handheld at 300mm. 1/25s!! Sharp as a tack and no different than a shot at high speed (~1/600s at this FL). That's ~4-5 stops of improvement.

I think Fuji owes me some commission for advertisement

1/25mm 70-300mm at 300mm.

I never buy into the new models as they are released, but now I realize how I missed out for 2 years.
