I know that Canon discontinues M series, but...

I ordered/received my first M series camera today.
It is refurbished product, so far I am happy with it.

Now I am thinking about getting 22mm f4 lens for this.

congrat....!

so what is the risk of buying discontinued system?

When the camera and lens suddenly broke or malfunction on middle of the road, the warranty is no more and trouble on seeking replacement parts. You will waste your time and money.

Yeah, so if you accept the risk gratefully, you still can make great photos from using discontinued system!

Oh, and...don't forget to install Magic Latern to greatly power up your little M buddy!

Enjoy!

I actually used the M6ii with the 22mm f/2 recently. It's a great combination.

Canon refurbished products normally come with a one-year warranty. I'm guessing that was the case here. If so, the only real risk is not having great resale value, but honestly, that's true of most cameras anyway, discontinued or not.

To the OP: enjoy the camera, and I definitely agree you should get the 22 f/2. That lens is what the M system is all about: bang for the buck and size.

I have been buying different cameras since the 1950s- I have never had a failure within a warranty period--never--- Only two of them ever died at all and long after the warranty period was spent. If you are worried, buy 2 of everything. As soon as I heard of the big announcement for tomorrow-- I bought a NEW M camera for a backup. It's what I want so it's what I will have come "R" or high water!

There are plenty of M lenses and will be for some time. You could but a EF mount camera and still plenty of used lenses out there! and bodies
