Confusing with Spot AF and 1-point AF setting

I use 90d and Canon 400mm 5.6 lens.

I mainly shoot birds, especially small birds, because many birds are hiding behind leaves and branches and jumping around.

How to distinguish Spot AF and 1-point AF setting has been bothering me. Which one should I choose in order to take a sharp photo in perfect focus?

Different people have different opinions online.

I want focus on bird fast and sharp.

Please help!

The spot focus is for when your target is so small that choosing 1-point may lead to focusing on the foreground on background.
