Don't loose your Stylus 1 Eyepiece.
2

When searching for another Stylus1 or 1s as a backup to my Stylus 1s holiday camera, I found that many of the well-used cameras had a missing eyepiece. Some sellers and indeed a pal of mine, did not even realise that their Stylus 1 had lost its eyepiece. I have attached a picture showing a Stylus 1 both with and without an eyepiece so folk know what I am writing about. The standard eyepiece accidentally pops off far too easily, but I have invented a good solution to stop this happening since a replacement original eyepiece is not only difficult to find, but eye-wateringly expensive. [Pun intended].

My proper cameras are both Olympus OM-D EM-1 versions, and the mk1 version has an interesting hot shoe cover. It has a tab pointing downwards to cover the accessory port that was removed in successive versions of the EM-1. If this cover is fitted to the Stylus 1 hot shoe, the downward tab would be above the eyepiece and it would prevent the eyepiece moving upwards and popping off. However, the tab is about 2-3mm too long but if shortened it can be popped into the hot shoe and prevent the Stylus 1 eyepiece from accidentally being knocked upwards and lost for ever.

I don't think a further explanation is necessary as the pictures show it all.

The replacement hot shoe cover is Olympus part number MCC-2 and I have sourced a few from Olympus Europe for very little money. They are for my own use.

1. Please do not comment on the horrid dirty dusty state of the camera parts in the pictures. I just cannot be bothered to clean-up and retake the pictures.

2. Yes, I know there is a broken glass in the view finder. I have a non-working but totally complete Stylus1 bought for nothing that I will use for spare parts when I get a round tuit.

3. Please do not start a debate about what is a "proper" camera.

4. Replacement eyepieces are available for the Stylus 1 at very cheap prices, but they are simply plastic. Original eyepieces are a combination of hard plastic and a softer material and are not readily available. The cheapo plastic ones do the job well enough!

Comparison with and without eyepiece

OM-D EM-1 mk1 hot shoe cover. NOT any later version!!!

Olympus part MCC-2 underside.

How to shorten the MCC-2 hot shoe cover.

MCC-2 hot shoe cover shortened and fitted to Stylus 1

I hope this is of some interest.

Without wishing to steal your thunder, I think the Olympus EM-5 mk1 eyepiece is the same, and these are inexpensive and readily available.

EM-5 eyecup.

EM-5 eyecup.

Yes, cheapo hard plastic eye cups not made by Olympus are readily available. I have one on one of my Stylus1 cameras. The original Stylus1 eyecup is a composit of rigid plastic and a softer more flexible elastomer, and although available from Olympus Europe, they are not inexpensive.
