More sun, more little flowers, less purplish, a bit sharper.

Re: Don't tread on me (cactus)

Yes it is sharper on the external link and this is a classic problem on DPR.  It has been discussed on the Moderators' Form and on other forums but no consensus was ever reached.

Thanks again, Rick.

Those big "petals" (bracts ) are a lot more saturated than they look so I turned down the saturation a little in SPP to reduce the amount of bottoming in the green channel of the review image. Unlike many here, I have SPP set to sRGB working space to make that kind of stuff show up right there.

Too, this shot was in partial sunlight and flower color saturation is less in bright light as opposed to the shadows.

In the previous shot there are some purplish areas that aren't there when looking at the plant itself.

Two graffiti photos from my daily photo walks. I love how foveon shows the different textures.

Cheers!

Re: Huge Merrill Cloud

Looks terrific to me, David.

It's a wonderful shot.

Is that some species of raptor in the sky?

More from the Beach
4

As a complement to my previous image, here is the view to the west on Thursday's sunset:

Last night, the blue hour, unaltered:

Again, I waited until a bird flew by, but at 1/5th second exposure, the bird was just a streak.

Thanks, Vitée.

(As I mentioned in the post :-)) It an immature bald eagle. There is a regular flock of eagles hanging around here presently - two mature and three with juveniles. When they aren't on the beach, I can find them are up in a tree, but I haven't found any nest so far.

Re: Sunset in the Netherlands

Thank you. Yes, the SD9 can take really wonderful pictures.

But you have to be really careful with the right exposure. Like back then with the slide film.

Nothing quite like the Foveon 3d pop… those little stamens (?) in the bottom left look like they're trying to escape the photo!!

Thank you for the appreciation Iain. And i concur with your thoughts about the SD14.

With every camera iteration from Sigma, there is improvement incrementally, on many fronts. I hope the Full Frame version in development now builds on all of that.

(Personally, i would like the Full Frame sensor to be based on the classic SD14 sensor!)

Sattva

Nice image sattva:  That SD14 does great work in your hands.

PS.  I agree with your comment above that the full frame Sigma with the SD14 style sensor would be perfect!

From Churchhill Island
2

First time visit to this glorious little island off Phillip Island.

There were large numbers of Spur Winged Plovers and at least one pair of Australian Pied Oyster Catchers. These shots were taken from the car.

I have never seen so many spur winged plovers in one place.

Hopefully there will be more to come from this trip, weather permitting.
