Hello Sigma shooters:

Well May is half over and spring is half over and summer is around the corner.  A good time to get out in the fresh air and take some photos.  You guy know the drill, image taken with any Sigma camera and lens is welcome.  Try to limit you post to 3 images and please give your post a subject title so that comments are properly directed.

Shoot some photos and have fun!

Saturday is the FA Cup (football) final, Chelsea v Liverpool. And the Eurovision Song Contest final, it will be won by Ukraine. Who could be second? Rumour is UK will not get nul point.

Huge Merrill Cloud

An impressive cloud to the East at sunset last night:

I did something different with the white balance - does it look natural?

The bird is a juvenile bald eagle, so no white head or tail.

The WB looks fine on my monitor. Better than natural.

Actually, yeah. When I was working on this, there was an obvious blue cast - which is to be expected, since I took this in the 'blue hour'. But, while I was out on the beach, the white objects did not appear to have a blue cast - my brain expected white and that's what I saw.

But not so for the image on the computer screen.

So I selected the foreground, and feathered the top side to the max PS would allow (150 pixels), and then used the eyedropper to WB on the wave  foam at the bottom. So the WB was fully applied at the bottom, and up for a way, then gradually went to zero over 150 pixels somewhere around the distant shore.

A good idea that worked.

A WB gradient, so to speak!

Cool.

Zanskar, Ladakh - Januray, 2015

Photograph from a winter expedition to this remote, winter wonderland.

Access to this place is 'practically' possible for only 4-5 months in a year when the road from Kargil becomes operational after the snows melt on the high passes enroute.

Rest of the year this location is cut off from the world.

I made my way to this place with the locals, who in the depths of winter make it to the outside world on a blanket of ice...'The Chadar'...when the Zanskar river freezes, allowing passage over it.

It was -25 degrees celsius when i made this photograph. At night it was -36 degrees celsius.

Best regards,

Sattva

P.s: Things have changed quite a bit now as far as access is concerned. Two more roads are making their way to this location from different directions...one of them is all season, all year access road.

I wonder how long the tranquil beauty of this place will last once that road becomes real and operational.

Taken with an Auto Alpa 50mm 1.7 macro, quite rare and mysterious lens, I nabbed a copy in a messy lot auction for a fraction of the going price. It's a bit oily around the edges and needs a clean but I don't hate it this way!

It's sharper on Flickr (linked).
