Safari Power Shot S5 IS 8 MP

I have an old 8MP Powershot S5 IS.  Would this even work for Safari Pictures. I believe most new Power Shot Bridge cameras have the same size Sensor. Any thoughts? I use an M50 for all my other pictures.

Thanks

Depends if you be happy with the 8MP resolution images,

True. But with more pixels in the same small 1/2.3" sensor; the smaller the pixel surface area, the less lighting gathering ability, and more image noise. Along with long telephoto lenses with small max apertures that basically mean you need good daylight lighting to keep ISO settings low.

Below a screen-shot from the DPR Studio Scene Comparison Tool (HERE ) with comparison of M50 and SX60 HS:

With the small apertures on the long-zoom bridge-type cameras will need high ISO's to have enough to prevent blurring due to animal movement and/ or camera movement.

In lower lighting the small 1/2.3" sensors image noise increases:

Take a look at the DPR article:

(be sure to look at the samples images)

Cheers.

I have an S5 IS.   Well of course it would work.   But I sure wouldn't take mine on safari.    I would much rather take a Canon SX70 or a Nikon P950 because they have much higher resolution EVFs so you can see the wildlife better.
