** Weekly X-Series Photo Thread 08 MAY-- 14 MAY**

I think it's the male in the foreground and the female watching him. He is a touch brighter as I used fill flash.

Comments and suggestions welcome,

Neat. I've never seen that bird before.
Thank you,

They are rather common in the US.

They are not that common in our area (or at least close to where I live), but I'm pretty sure we encountered one of these little cuties during our recent trip to the Galapagos Islands, assuming I have the ID right.

That defiantly looks like one Jerry. Mine has it's mating colors with the red legs.

Yup, and as you can tell from the EXIF, he was really close. This was shot at 100mm, and honestly was lucky that he was at least at enough of a distance that allowed for a reasonable composition. The are really cool little birds, and I felt very lucky that we encountered one over there.
The young ones are incredibly tolerant of people. Possibly you would have been able to get too close to focus. It's fun when that happens

I think for good reason, the ship crew that accompanied us on these excursions made it very clear that we were to respect the wildlife and keep a reasonable distance. That said, we were able to get plenty close for pics even with minimal reach… in many cases well below what a 100-400 might require in terms of distance.
