Re: Sigma SD15 Camera - Please Does Anyone Have Raw?

Ďakujem vám, Abbazz, za vaše vynikajúce poznatky o fotoaparátoch SD14 a SD15. Veľmi dobre rozumiem tomu, čo si napísal. Keby som mal kameru SD14, tiež by som nemenil. Jeho neprekonateľná kvalita obrazu pri ISO50 je všeobecne známa.

Thanks, Larry, for your pictures on camera SD15.

Ted he sent me 4 RAWs, which I processed and enlarged in Lightroom. Upsizing and sharpening works very well. It is possible to work with images from the SD15 camera in this way.
As I wrote in the post before, I will not buy another camera now. I'll make do with the SD1 Merrill camera. I'm used to its use and image processing. I don't want to complicate things it's not good for life. Or I'll wait for the new FF Siigma, which will definitely be.

Thank you Larry for your help. I wish you all the best and lots of beautiful photos

Peter

Something to consider is that a FFF will be mirrorless and so will probably not have a removable IR filter so no easy conversion to IR photography by just removing the IR filter.

Admittedly, I don't take a lot of IR photos, but it's still a nice feature to have when I do want to use it. Even if the FFF ever comes out I'm not selling my SD1M for that reason.

Unlike the mirrorless sd Quattros ?

I understand, Mike. I will probably never sell my SD1 Merrill camera.  Overall, I have lenses set up by a specialist garage for this camera, which is recognizable by good (mostly) focusing. There will be no reason to sell it.

BTW, nice photos Mike

Quattros don't have true mirrorless lens to sensor spacing. They're just a dslr without the mirror. I'm not that familiar with the FP but I don't think they have removable IR filters.

Thanks. On the SD1M I can also calibrate my lenses for IR which of course is a completely different calibration from daylight. This ensures accurate IR AF focus.

I see, Mike. At what spacing does a mirrorless camera become "not mirrorless"?

It has nothing to do whether it is or is not mirrorless, it has to do with how much room it has to have to have a removable IR filter.

They don't -- at least, not removeable by the average user. There are specialists who will do it for you for a fee.

Re: Sigma SD15 Camera - Please Does Anyone Have Raw?

The SD15 is quite low rez by todays standards but enlarges quite well in Sigma’s propriety software. You can double the resolution.

however the SD15 needs to be well exposed to get a good image. DR is limited and it’s ridiculously easy to blow the highlights. Under exposure will give you horrible noise.
I still use mine and when I get everything right that is when the magic happens. Under or over expose and it will punish you.

A caveat for those who get that done. I sent my G1 in for conversion not realizing that all they remove is the filter, not the CFA. So when I took my first shots outside, they did not have the ugly magenta cast a la Foveon - almost normal RGB in fact.

Still the IR effect was available with a 720nm on the lens:

Followed by some mapping in the GIMP:
