X100v or X-T4 / Family trip to Dubai & Turkey

Hello all, thinking of getting either X100v or XT4 with 16-80mm or Oly M5 iii with 12-40mm f2.8

Am thinking of taking some pics of landscape, city and family pics. We are 3 families travelling and it is going to be half family pics and half cith/nature pics.

Any recommendation/suggestion based on the location am travelling to. I do have full frame (R6), but my lens are bit heavy to carry out.

Planning to get mft or apsc for smaller footprint and lighter in weight..

Thanks once again!!

Issue with the em5iii is the totally awful batteries, the ibis drains them very quickly. Also you really need the grip imo with the em5iii especially with 12-40 2.8 by which time its getting quite large, and the evf is tiny too!

X-t4 16-80 different class imo.

How abt x100v. 3 families and have 6 kids in age between 5-8. Scared I may regret not having any wide lens.

Second thoughts, If I get xt4, then it can serve as secondary camera..

Any other suggestion on camera+lens combo that I could take. I don't think changing lens is going to be an option and dont want carry the full frame glasses.

The X100V would be lighter and simpler, with great quality. You could just back up a bit for your people groups. I own an X-T4 and 16-80. It’s a bit heavy and cumbersome, usually left home when I want to focus on enjoying family outings and activities.

Can´t you get a small prime for the R6? no need to buy another system.

The R6, I use for work related stuffs too. Don't wanna carry it. I was thinking for a light weight setup for personal use. Some of the considerations in mind are Fuji S10 with 23mm f2 or xt4 with 18mm f2.8 or x100v

Haven't visited much of countries outside my hometown. So want to go with something easy, that could help me with bit of landscape pics and then capture the kids activities.

Do yourself a favor, and don't buy into another system. If you have too big and bulky lenses for your R6, then consider the 16mm and 50mm, or even the 24-105mm non-L.

If you really want a smaller camera, don't go for a second system camera from another brand that is just a little bit smaller/lighter than your R6. Go for a camera that is significantly smalker -> X100V.

Tend to agree with the X100V recommendation - as well as being considerably smaller it's just an altogether different (and IMO immensely rewarding) experience to shoot with. You can always consider grabbing a WCL or even TCL conversion lens if you'd like the option of a bit more flexibility. I believe the image quality is very high with both.

+1 re the X100V. If you're keeping your Canon system it simple.

Be careful about opening up a 2nd door to another ICL "system."

If you have a FF system I'd personally not also purchase an APSC interchangeable system so would rule out the XT.  The X100V would be excellent, as would that m43 12-40 lens... It's just you really need to mount it on the E-M1 rather than 5 to get much better handling.  If you can find an E-M1ii at a good price and upgrade to the latest firmware you'd be amazed at how good it is.  Ultimately the 12-40 range sounds more versatile to me than the fixed lens X100 for the uses you've suggested, although the X100 can do all of them with some limitations.

For (almost) same size / weight / price of x100V, you could get:

e-m5 III + panasonic 14mm f2.5 + zuiko 17mm f1.8 + zuiko 45mm f1.8

or

(x-e4 or x-t30) + 16mm f2.8 + 27mm f2.8

My preference is Fuji

I understand your point of view. But the X-T4 is only a tad lighter than the R6. You could use the R6 with the small RF 50 or RF 35 lenses? Going on a trip with unfamiliar gear is not wise.

The X100 series is great if you don't need more than one lens of course.

It is better to do your trip before the humidity season in Dubai particularly. Now weather is still nice but not to be too late lol 😆. I suggest  a 27mm with XT4 both are weather sealed.

Definitely the 16-80mm. Perhaps with a lighter body like the XS10.

As an alternative what about the Fuji X-S10, very easy to operate, same as R6 but in minature I'm still on fence with X-T4 because the X-S10 has 4 custom settings that store a set up in their entirety. Battery life is between Em5iii and X-T4 imo, but even with 16-80 its super compact and no add-on grip required, its not officially weather sealed but Ive used it in all weather without any issues. You could fit the X-S10 with any prime or even 16-55 2.8 and be done for the trip with great ibis and excellent e-shutter too.

I would say (and I'm going to take flack for this) grab a used or refurbished EOS RP and pair it with some combination of the RF 16mm f/2.8, RF 35mm f/1.8, RF 50mm f/1.8 and the 24-105 STM

Me personally, I'd go RP + 35mm f/1.8 + 24-105 STM and call it a day. Either that or Ricoh GR III or Fuji X100V if you must shoot a Fuji body.

While I love my X100V for street and family photos, I find a "normal" range zoom to be preferable for landscape, city and travel and in general.

If you've got a full frame camera and you want something that's lighter/smaller, mft makes more sense (to me) than Fuji.  But that also means you should be choosing compact items from within the mft offerings.  In particular, I think the Panasonic 12-35/2.8 is a better choice than the Olympus 12-40/2.8 because of its small/lighter specs.  Image quality is excellent.  I used mine with my Olympus E-M5 II and they worked very well together.

If you don't need f/2.8, then the Panasonic 12-60/3.5-5.6 zoom is even smaller/lighter with more focal range.

There is nothing with the performance of the X-S10 anywhere near its price-point, its an X-T4 with cheaper evf but better ergonomics and single sd slot. Same goes for 16-80 f4, no 12-60 2.8 currently exists!

X-S10 different class to any m43 in image quality, identical iq to Sony A7IV!

Errr, that's a lot of hyperbole. X-S10 is a very good camera, but the E-M5 III and EOS M6 II are certainly competitive. The 16-80 f/4, is not a very good lens. I had it when I still shot Fuji and it was always too soft, even stopped down. m4/3 has the PL 12-60 f/2.8-4 if you want that zoom range or the 12-100 f/4, which is a substantially better lens in every regard (save for sizes) than the XF 16-80 f/4. As for the Sony A7IV IQ, um, there is less difference between m4/3 and APS-C (especially X-Trans) than APS-C and full frame. Do with the information what you will.
