I have an X-T2 and very recently an X-E4 and do not do any video. Being old as dirt, or pretty close to it, I found that there were times when I could not shoot handheld, requiring me to use my monopod or tripod with the X-T2. So I decided to get a Fuji with IBIS and like you came down to a choice of a used X-H1 or or an X-S10, preferably also used.

In the end, I decided on the X-H1for several reasons. The X-H1 and the X-T2 share the same 24mp sensor and processor so the results using the same lens would be no different. They both share the same big bright EVF and same tilting LCD, along with all of the major analog controls, except for the loss of the exposure compensation dial on the X-H1, which I never use anyway and find an annoyance. Except for the items relating to IBIS and the small secondary information LCD on the top deck of the X-H1, the menus are identical. So almost zero learning curve and of course, the cost difference. Except for the newer 26mp sensor and processor, there is almost no difference between my X-T2 and your X-T3, so the X-T3/X-H1 experience would be very similar, while the X-S10 is a departure from Fuji's traditional analog control system.

The IBIS on the X-H1 solved my handheld problem, but the X-H1 feels huge and a lot heavier than my X-T2 and in the end I decided it was too big for me and sold it after about six weeks. Now that I have the absolute minimalist X-E4, I keep thinking that an X-S10 might be an interesting upgrade from the X-T2. The only thing holding me back is the two things I hate are articulating LCDs and declicked aperture rings and besides the PASM dial, Fuji stuck an articulating LCD on the X-S10.

Thanks a lot Bill for your response, yess XH1 and XS10 are both excellent options with different advantages and disadvantages. I think for now I will buy a XS10!

I am planning to buy a back up camera and have to decide between a new XS10 or a used XH1 as I want to have IBIS

I shoot mostly with 16-55 for landscape, 50-140 for portraits and 100-400 for birds and wildflife

What would you recommend? Buy a used XH1? or new XS10. My budget is 1000 euro max

Thanks for your response!

To accompany an X-T3 my vote definitely goes to the X-S10 - that was my setup until I changed the T3 for the 4.

Personally I think the smaller body compliments the larger X-T3 plus I found the the 3 to be a significantly better camera than the X-H1.
The other factor, which may not be important to you, is because the XT3 and XS10 have the same sensor and processor then you can expect identical results regardless of which one you use.

I know when I’m travelling or out and about I always grab the XS10, it’s just so portable. I would recommend looking at a grip for the XS10. I got a smallrig one which just adds a nice bit of heft and size to it for when it’s required - I have found myself using it quite often with the 50-140 that way.

Thanks yes i have the same feeling XS10, grip is a good idea, same sensor and processor is also an advantage

No experience with the X-S10, so I'll leave comments and recommendations for that to others. Of the three lenses you mentioned, I've owned two of them (16-55 and 100-400) for years and they remain my most frequently used lenses. The X-H1 was, and is an excellent camera and has served me well from the day I purchased it (right after it was introduced). It's a hefty piece of kit, and based on the many comments I've read here in the forum, it's certainly not for everyone. I do find the balance and handling with the larger lenses you mentioned to be excellent and really not an issue for me since I use the camera with grip attached at all times and it's never felt unwieldy or uncomfortable.

I doubt that IQ will be much of an issue, but you really need to ensure that you'll be comfortable with the size and handling of the X-H1. If you have a chance to handle one or even rent (hire) one for a period of time, I might recommend it. Or, at the very least, thoroughly check it out in the shop first, if you have that opportunity, just to make sure that you're OK with the size, weight, and handling. Otherwise, it's a great camera and there really is little in the way of issues that I might want to warn you about first.

Best of luck, regardless which direction you decide to go.

Thanks Jerry, yes IQ will be neglectable. XH1 is still a great camera also based on what you say, Yes i will check out in the shop the weight and handling of both XH1 and XS10

Thanks, I just read the messages related to problems with the dials! I used the dental floss and now the dial seems to work fine!

I still will buy a XS10 as a second body or the XH1 but this problem with the Xt3 seems solved

Thanks a lot!!!!!

You're welcome. My advice for the second body is clearly the X-H1, to go with your rather heavy lenses, that are all WR, which the X-S10 is not. Latter also has a PASM, so you would have 2 cameras with different settings mechanisms. But I am a slow stills shooter, so your needs may be different. And if you can wait, prices for the X-H1 are likely to get lower when the X-H2(s) is announced likely end of May,. You may even be tempted to buy the latest and hopefully greatest!

Hi,

Though I have no experience with the X-S10 I know the X-H1 inside out. I think the X-H1 is a perfect camera. A little on the heavy side but built quality is excellent. It' s as good or even better than on my X-Pro2 or X-Pro3. And those cameras are built excellent too.

The shutter is especially impressive: almost as silent as a leaf shutter. I got this camera brand new after it has been reduced significantly because I wanted a second camera body. I would choose the X-H1 because it has been made with another price point in mind and it feels like it.
