Important limitation of Fuji X Raw Studio software
1

I have a collection of film simulation settings in files ending in .fp1 on my computer.

Some I have downloaded from the internet and some I have created myself.

The limitation of the Fuji X Raw Studio software, from which the simulations are handled, is that when I connect the X-T4 to my computer, it can only process pictures taken with that camera. It is impossible to process pictures taken with other models, such as the X-E2, X-T2, X-T3 and X-S10.

I find this a major limitation of Fujifilm's software.

The limitation is that the software must use the camera's own internal processing engine to do what it does (proprietary Fuji in-camera RAW processing). If you want to process X-T2 files, you must connect an X-T2, X-T4 files, you must connect an X-T4. It's not impossible to process files from other cameras but If you don't have the other cameras that produced the files, you do indeed have a problem.

Pretty sure the older X-E2 isn't supported at all, though.

The Fuji X Raw Studio software uses the camera itself,to process the images. The software is just a hook and (better, or at least bigger) UI for the camera. Arguably easier to experiment with and adjust images, but no real work is done by the computer.

I believe you can change the metadata in your old files to spoof your current camera into believing it made the images. I’ve never done this. This images will be processed as if they were files from that camera and there may be slight differences in output then if you were using the original camera.

How do I change camera metadata from Lightroom?

This limitation is documented, so it should not have been a surprise that it "works that way".

Change meta data

I use Exiftool to change meta data. But I am on Linux. However, I believe there is a Windows GUI.

Also, I've never changed meta data for the purpose of using X-Raw Studio with a different model. Don't know whether this works. Search this forum.

I always recommend darktable. That's my standard raw converter. Pretty happy with it. I occasionally use X-Raw Studio, Silkypix, and in camera raw conversion.

Regards,

Martin

Possibly but its not obvious what you need to change - its not as easy to fool as Lightroom

As I said, I’ve never tried this myself — doesn’t feel worth the bother — but I recall hearing of it.

I get the surprise if one hasn’t taken the time to understand “how” the software works. I’d bet most assume it’s an analog to the edit panel of  “Lightroom” (or Apple’s Photos), not a control interface (and I/O buss) for the camera’s processor.

Yes, that’s owing to the camera’s own processor being the app.

If you actually took the time to learn about the program, you’d realize it uses the camera to process the image.
