Next X100?

Dear Forum,

I noticed that the x summit is around, and I’ve been waiting for it. I recently fell in love with the concept of Fuji x100v. And I would much rather bring that than my xt4 or my gfx100s with me to the streets. I think it comes down to what makes me want to take photo is the the best camera.

that being said, is there a possibility that a new gen x100 is coming with the summit/in the near future?

Best,

Z

Re: Next X100?

Of course there is a possibility, the current X100 iteration is about two years old. That's not much, but in the past there has been new releases within a two year timeframe. However to my knowledge at least there are no actual rumors suggesting a new X100 might be part of the show and considering the X100V still seems to be selling like hot cakes, I am not sure if Fujifilm is in a hurry to release a successor.

Another reason is the still ongoing shortage of electronical componants and parts, which is haunting many industries worldwide. I am not sure if camera manufacturers, not only Fujifilm, can currently afford to maintain a broader number of products and ensure a steady supply for the market. Last year Sony announced a surprising production stop for certain, even recent, cameras models, in order being able to concentrate production volumes for more popular and requested models. I am not sure if Nikon or Canon did something similar.

Personally I could see this happen, but to be honest I think they are rather concentrating for the X-Mount when it comes to the anniversary event.

What is it that you think a new X100 will do that the existing models don't already provide? Have you tried shooting with one yet? I still use the original version and find it to be an excellent camera, maybe you should try one first?

I guess it comes rather down to question whether buying a new X100V now if a successor is going to be released in the next couple of weeks. If this would be a possibility, I might also rather wait for a possible announcement and decide afterwards, which camera to buy.

Personally I can mostly think about IBIS as a big improvement, combined with a new sensor and processing engine. Ma be even a silent linear AF motor, as I think the one on the X100V is quite noisy indeed. Besides that I agree, the V is a phantastic camera and I doubt I'd make the switch even if all those features would be included. In the end it also comes down to pricing and availability.

Any successor is going to be expensive and hard to obtain, l can't see ibis myself, it would make the camera bigger and heavier, which goes against the ethos of the X100 series.

i have tried one from the store and I do like it. That why I said I fell in love with the concept. However, I go out to the street a lot during the nights, and I was hoping for IBIS so that I could lower my iso a bit. But for sure the current one is beautiful

Re: Next X100?

Also, I have a thought. Looking at the spec, is X100V literally just XE4 with a 23f2? Or is x100v more compact or actually better? I haven’t used or seen XE4 before and am tempted since x100v is constantly out of stock.

It's the optical viewfinder that makes it what it is IMHO, if you're not fussed by that then an X-E4 will produce the same results.

Just to let you know. The XE4 is just as hard getting as a x100v these days.

No chance at the summit.  They can't keep the current model in stock currently.  There is no need for them to update it yet.

You say street... but you mean things that stand still or inanimate objects if you think IBIS is going to help you.

Well, it is also the better build quality, the small 23mm pancake, the leaf shutter, etc.  By the way, all Fujifilm cameras with the same sensor produce the same results, so we obviously are all buying different models for other reasons.

The X100V has a hybrid viewfinder which consists of a switchable optical viewfinder and an EVF. Note that the EVF has a higher resolution than the one in the X-E4. Other noteworthy differences are the X100V's leaf shutter (the shutter is inside the lens), its built in ND filter, as well as the optional weather sealing. It also has more physical buttons/dials than the X-E, whether that is a pro or a con is subjective. Lastly the 23 f/2 on the X100V is (obviously) not identical to the XF 23 f/2 both physically and optically. Whether their differences are notable enough is again something I will leave you to judge.

On the other hand the X-E4 is cheaper and being an interchangeable lens camera, it allows you to mount other lenses, some of which have in built optical stabilisation.

As you can see, the X100V is definitely more compact.

I know what the differences are, but, as I said, it's the optical viewfinder that's the real differentiator, you can put a faster 23mm lens on the XE4, and the better build quality is debatable, as for the sensor, did you really think I wasn't aware of that, or that people buy different cameras for different reasons?

Not that hard. Amazon says both ship in early May.

Apple brings almost twice-better camera once a year with every next iPhone. Why would underestimate Fujifilm's 2 years development for whom digicams production is primary business?

Twice better? How is that quantified?  And has is it that much better?  This is a stretch.

I honestly wasn’t sure since you think the other things i mentioned are non factors.

Given the near perfection of the x100v, the pent up demand due to supply constraints and the general tightening of belts in the camera industry I suspect it will be a minute before we see a significant upgrade to the model.
