Surprise!

Some of the most sought after video videos are actually quite noisy, like the Red which needs a dark frame at the start.

For all the testing I will add, this is the best looking video file I have seen from a m43rds body (specifically the 5.7k 10bit422 and 4k 120fps 10bit 420 both in vlog with dr boost on)

i am actually going to buy a second body, but it seems for general use you are saying the gh5 Mark 2 would be a better choice when not in those modes.

How does the colour look by comparison?

The GH5M2 and the GH6 share the same software stack and the photo style look identical except CineD2 that on the GH5M2 has a bug

I shot this already with the two cameras together and they look the same

In terms of choice as I wrote is mostly about use case. The GH5M2 has only a long GOP at 60fps 420 not All intra however it looks good enough in daylight.

In terms of hybrid use video/still is my preference

However if you shoot a matte box or ND filters all the time you can get another GH6 body and be happy.

For what I do I have not seen a dramatic difference either way however when I look at my underwater housing that costs almost double than the camera I am not planning to invest in one for the GH6 will keep my housing as I shoot video and photos and it is easier to have one camera to do it all

Good to know. The gh5.2 is $900 cheaper right now Body only. Having said that I am still using my EM1.3 for stills.

can’t  I really spot any obvious colour shifts

i do have a polar pro matte box and some nd filters for my video use. I generally keep the DR boost on unless I am shooting the high frame rates.

For what I do I have not seen a dramatic difference either way however when I look at my underwater housing that costs almost double than the camera I am not planning to invest in one for the GH6 will keep my housing as I shoot video and photos and it is easier to have one camera to do it all

it does always come down to budget and practicality. As I am shooting more commercial video I think the GH6 is probably the winner I as don’t want to have to be making decisions about what to rig where.

Thanks for the info!

I'm not a pixel peeper and usually don't pay much attention to technical analyses.  However, on the stills side, I'm clearly seeing what you've concluded during my everyday use.  It is requiring more care when shooting, but it's not a showstopper for me.  I wanted this camera primarily for the video and it has delivered more than expected.  Coming from the S5, I can say that I do not regret the switch.  Well, partly because I still have an a7iv to cover where gh6 falls short for stills.

Prior to the GH6 the GH5S was the only non full frame camera that had a decent vlog now there is this one and as you say it delivers as long as you can live with some quirks in video

For photos is not as good the design choices have a negative impact on the still performance

I think your findings align with BClaff's n/t

This raises a question about Panasonic...

will they still support he idea of still photo first oriented models. i.e. G9 Mark II, GX10, and to me ideally GM9.

I provided Bill with the test files but after shooting the camera for a month I had already come to that conclusions

However with the GH6 I can do video projects that I simply couldn’t do before all at 60fps with 120fps when I need it

it does open new creative opportunities and you can record all on card on the field

for photos it doesn’t have very clean output for landscapes however the milky way shots I have taken are strong

That is a good question. Not with this architecture on the GH6

for photos Lumix has the S series with strong IQ both on low light and high resolution so we need to understand if Panasonic sees an opportunity for MFT and stills or not anymore

when you look at IQ there have been no real improvements since 5 years for MFT and lacking a different approach to autofocus there really is not much novelty for new models

That is another way to phrase my question

eell  there’s other improvements to make  and a gm9 would be amazing
