G9 or GX7/80/9 with 14-140?

Hi,

I've been wondering which body folks (who own both the G9 and GX7/80/9) prefer to use with their Panasonic 14-140 lens (assuming they own one!).  For this question please just consider how the combination balances and handles, and how easy the camera's controls are to operate and disregard the additional useful features of the G9.

I've recently bought a GX9 as a second body to my G9 and have been pleasantly surprised how well it handles with my 14-140.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Best wishes, Brian

I have G80 (x2) and G9, plus GM/GF bodies. I recently added a GX80, which is very similar body and weight-wise to the GX9. The 14-140mm sits well on the G and GX bodies, the G9 combo is noticeably heavier and bulkier. My choice of a body/lens combo depends on the intended subject matter. If the subject matter is moving, BIFs included, then for me it’s a G80 or G9. Though I tend to use the G9 with the 100-400mm.

The GX80 is for street and landscape, when the tilt screen works fine, with 12-60mm and the 14-140mm. The kit 12-60mm is very similar in size and weight to the 14-140, well balanced and easy to handle. The lenses zip tend to use with the GX80 are the 12-32mm and the 12-60mm.  I did try the GX80 for BIFs and quickly decided it didn’t suit.

surprised how well it handles with my 14-140.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Best wishes, Brian

I don't have that lens but I find that the GX9 handles just fine with all my lenses (12-60, 12-35/2.8, 35-100/2.8, 8-18)  save for the 100-400 which benefits from a bigger grip so I can hold the entire thing more steadily.

I would use the 14-140 on the g9. The 14 -140 is a bit heavy for the gx 7-8-9. I   had a g7 with the 14-140. as i am getting older I went with the gx9 a lot lighter to hold. The g7 and the 14-140 was a god combo. But I like the gx9 with the 45 -150 for my kind of photographing. plus, I have other lenses that i also use.                            Just my 2 cents

I have a GX9, G9, and the 14-140mm lens. For me personally, both bodies handle this lens very well. If you want a smaller lighter and less obvious camera, go with the GX9. If you need the extra features of the G9, go with that. If you are using the camera for wildlife action photography, go with the G9 because the AF is faster and more accurate. (But you said not to consider the non-handling camera features, so maybe AF is not important to you???)

Just my two cents ...

I'd use it even on a GM or GX850 if I had that lens, and I have used one on them in the past (as I gifted a 14-140 to my mother, who uses it on a G85). It's a small enough and light enough lens that I doubt you'd face any unsurmountable issues on any kinda body.

My favoured walk around setup is still GX8 + 14-140 MK2.  ...even though for most other tasks I shoot Olympus now.

Hi Simon,

Thanks for your comments.

AF is important to me; it's just that I was interested to hear about how people find the handling of the respective setups.
