IBIS v OIS lens stabilization question ..

I have used an X-E2 for many years, along with predominantly zooms lenses (10-24, 18-55, 18-135, 55-200) as well as occasionally, the excellent 60 macro.

I am looking to upgrade to the X-S10, but can anyone advise how many stops of stabilization my OIS lenses give compared to using IBIS with the X-S10 ?

If the difference is marginal, then I feel that I may as well move up to the T3, as that body is available new, for less than the S10 where I live ...

Re: IBIS v OIS lens stabilization question ..

Taken from the DP Review:   'It offers 6 stops of shake reduction on all unstabilized Fujifilm lenses save for the XF 16-55mm F2.8, which weighs in at 5.5 stops. Most stabilized Fujifilm lenses vary from 5.5 to 6 stops, save for the XF 80mm macro, which offers 5 stops.'

Many thanks ... in that case, it looks like the T3 is the way I should go , which is my much preferred option,  having compared it's handling directly with the S10 ...

Found some older discussion on the same:

https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4526488

Looks like a combo of IBIS and OIS can add up to 1.5 stop of stabilisation.

IBIS also offers stabilisation on more axes than OIS.

I was under the impression that with both available, when the lens has OIS as well, they work together covering different Aries each.

edit - I’m sorry, I see now that is all answered in the link in the previous post

I had an XE2 (then XE3 then XT2) but now have XS10. My interest is mainly video these days and for that, IBIS is a big advance over OIS. The XS10 is a lovely camera, the one I've liked most in the digital era.

If all your lenses are zooms with OIS, then the difference is marginal from my experience

Almost no difference for 18-135, around a stop difference for 18-55

Bear in mind that IBIS stabilizes different motion than OIS stabilizes. Combined you get better stabilization even if the number of stops is similar.

Have you experienced that in real life?

If so, with what lenses?

OIS stabilizes tilting motion. IBIs stabilizes up/down, left/right, and forwards]/backward motion. Together its called six-axis stabilization.

OK, let's just believe it has its advantages

I’ve never understood the ‘five axis’ (or in this case ‘six axis’) thing. Surely there are only three axes and the motion of any point in space can be described using them…

yes, you said it yourself, the motion of a point.

But if you want to describe the motion of a 3D object, then you need to add tilt/roll/ swivel? for a total of 6.
