Canon M6 MKII L-Bracket With Battery Door Access
1

"Note: looking for M6 MKII specific (not universal) bracket as I need battery door access"

So it looks like SmallRig discontinued the M6 MKII L-Bracket...
Has anyone found another company that makes one?

Re: Canon M6 MKII L-Bracket??

There are plenty of generic L brackets that would work, but perhaps be a bit clumsy and would prevent the battery door opening, but if it was for fairly infrequent use they would work.

Re: Canon M6 MKII L-Bracket??

I'll check it out, thanks!

Any idea if it works with the Canon lens adapter, with the tripod mount attached?

I'm not familiar with the L-bracket you're asking about, but I do use the now-discontinued SmallRig L-bracket. The tripod mount that comes with the EOS-EOS M adapter won't work with the SmallRig L-bracket.

I looked long and hard for any L-bracket with would work with the Canon adapter/tripod mount combination and never found one.

I use this one and it allows the mount adaptor to be used. I have used it with M6ii, adaptor and EF 16-35 F4 with no issues

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1347311-REG/3_legged_thing_qr11_lc_copper_110mm_l_bracket.html?sts=pi&pim=Y

And not even really expensive, plus I can slap it on my R6 as well.

One small piece of advice, if you plan on using the tilt function of the screen, pull it out before mounting.

The Smallrig cage for the M6 mk II is still available from Amazon UK. I don’t know if you could get it sent to you from UK, but worth a try.

The cage is not an L-bracket, though; the Arca rail is only on the bottom, so it's not straightforward for portrait orientation. I have the similar (and I think better) cage from UURIG, and got around this by attaching a small plate that had an Arca flange on it, which I can't find on SmallRig's site now [cue the conspiracy music ]

Are you talking about attaching an L-bracket to the mount adapter? If you had an anti-rotation thing in place, I don't see why not.

If you mean a conventional setup, where the bracket is attached to the base of the camera, the dimensions of the M6 mkII are a big constraint. The distance from the rear of the tripod foot of the adapter to the edge of the LCD, which needs to swing free, is only 28mm, but an Arca rail is 39mm. And even if you can attach it, the mount foot will almost certainly obstruct the clamp on your tripod.

For that, it would be best to just detach the foot.

This one from Fotodiox would look so nice on the M6 mkII, with battery door access too.

Too bad it wouldn't fit, and that anti-rotation flange would get in the way of the LCD.  The "Senior" version would fit, but block the battery door and still has the flange.

Back to the drawing board/search engine.

Yes, but easy to add a small Arca plate to the left side, then it’s an L-bracket!

No, I was talking about attaching it to the body, and just leaving it there.

I occasionally use the Sigma 18-35 with the M6, and mount it to the tripod via the adapter because that's a heavy lens, and I just didn't want to keep having to remove the L-Bracket, especially in the field.

If you had an anti-rotation thing in place, I don't see why not.

I actually have a mini mount on there, right now, that leaves a gap about the width of a piece of paper between it, and the foot, without obstructing the screen, but yeah... It looks like most of the L-Brackets out there are a little too wide.

This works fine for normal tripod use, but I was considering picking up a wider EF-M mount lens to do sweeping, vertical time lapse shots, and wanted to be able to mount the camera with an L-Bracket.

But so far most of the suggestions I'm getting are for universal brackets which, as we know, block access to the battery/card door

Looks like I might have to forego the EF-M lens, pick up another EF/EF-S and just buy/fashion a bracket to attach to the adapter foot, instead.

Re: Canon M6 MKII L-Bracket??

I'm very quickly realizing that the only L-Brackets that exist for this camera probably have the right-side grip because there's almost no space between the door and the mount and that's the best way they could figure to stabilize it.

Please note:

I'm specifically looking for one with battery access.

This morning, I found the part number of the SmallRig plate engraved on it — it is the APU2389. Low profile and allows access to the microphone and remote ports. Works great.

Re: Canon M6 MKII L-Bracket With Battery Door Access

Don't make the same mistake I made: I saw a nice looking bracket on AliExpress; when I received it, I realized it was for the Mark I, not the Mark II. Didn't fit

Re: Canon M6 MKII L-Bracket?? Battery Access and Tripod bump.

The bracket on ebay I referenced above fits nicely on the M6 II with access to the battery compartment. The tilt screen opens nicely.
I'm not exactly certain about your exact issue with the EF to M lens adapter. On the Viltrox adapter the "bump" on the bottom of the adapter is removable. I'm not sure if this is removable on the official Canon adapter or on adapters made by other manufacturers.

I can confirm that that "bump" on the bottom of the Canon adapter is not removable. It is part of the body of the tripod foot.

The "bump" on the Canon adapter is more like a flange. It's located on the camera side of the adapter, and apparently serves to keep the adapter from rotating. The red arrow in the photo below is the flange I'm referring to.

That "bump" also prevents me from using the tripod foot on the adapter with my apparently-now-discontinued SmallRig LCC2516 L-bracket.

But even if you could attach the bracket with the mount adapter installed, the foot would obstruct the clamp on your tripod. And if you were using the L-bracket, you wouldn't be using the foot. So why not just detach it and work?

The foot is attached with a hand screw, and it's easy enough to detach and stuff in your pocket any time you wouldn't need it but you don't want to be fumbling around with allen keys to remove the bracket every time you wanted to switch to a heavier lens, in the field.
