looking for recommendation

Hi there,

Hoping all you experts can help me out....

Will be in Tahiti on a cruise. Only snorkeling. (Ie not going deep). What’s best suggestion? GoPro? (Which?) something else small and simple? (Which?) Not looking to spend a fortune.

have already Sony dsc-rsx10m3 for regular photography. (Took great pictures in tanazania safari). What would you guys all suggest for simple underwater photography depth no more than snorkeling (unless I drop the camera)?

thanks

Olympus TG-6 or a housing for your RX100M3. Housing the RX100 will be bulkier, but it will provide better image quality. Housing options are the Sony housing (fits models 1 through 5), SeaFrogs Salted Line (fits models 3 through 7), or maybe shop around for a used Nauticam/Recsea/Acquapazza.

I also would recommend taking a great long look at the Olympus TG-5 or TG-6. They are waterproof for up to 50ft, drop proof, dust proof, etc.

check out this review: Olympus TG-6

I take photos, not particularly good photos, mostly abstract photos. Yeah abstract is what I would call them, you might call them blurry.

The OP has an RX10M3 which is different than the RX100M3.

RX10 is a bridge (syperzoom) type camera with a 24-600mm equivalent lens

RX100 is a P&S type camera with a 24-70mm equivalent lens

Doh, I misread it... yeah,I know what RX10 is and it's not housable.

Re: looking for recommendation

I went in 2015 with an RX100 II in a Nauticam housing.   I did both scuba and snorkeling with it, and at least without the strobes, the RX100 in a Nauticam housing was small enough to work well on the snorkeling dive.

Re: looking for recommendation

Hi.
thanks. Sounds sensible. One more follow up. What do you think of the sealife housing for iPhone or the camera 3.0 I think it is , vs GoPro?

I don't want to risk my iphone to a flooding event (or drop).   I acknowledge the convenience in the pictures and videos being on the primary communications device, but I often rely very heavily on my phone while on travel, even more so than at home, and replacing it is very difficult, and for some needs impossible until returning to the US.

The size of the resulting phone + housing is also considerably larger, unless you intend to add lighting to it as well.
