Olympus TG5/6 Accessory Help Please

I am going to look for a good deal on a used TG5/TG6 camera. From what I have read an LCD protector is essential. Can I have you thoughts  please on whether the I should buy the  LB-T01 lens barrier  or the CLA-T01 adapter with the lens cap?  I see the CLA-T01 enables the use of filters.  Do most people keep a UV filter on the lens at all times?   As I really enjoy Macro photography is the LG- 1 light guide  or the  FD-1 flash diffuser the most suitable for Macro outdoors?  I would be doing close ups of flowers, insects possibly in rock pools but I wouldnt be snorkelling or diving.

Re: Olympus TG5/6 Accessory Help Please

I don't know how 'essential' an LCD screen protector is, but out of caution I have them on all my cameras.   Cheap protection - just in case.

I have the CLA-T01 adapter because I have the TCON-T01 tele-converter.   I also have a polarizing filter.   I leave the adapter mounted because I can use a lens cap with it.  I have the lens cap tethered so just a flip of my finger tip and it is off.    I keep the camera in a Pelican Micro-case, and it fits even with the adapter and lens cap on.   I do not otherwise cover the lens.    The polarizing filter is not on unless I am using it.

My photography uses differ from yours, so I can't answer your other questions.

Thank you for your help, I had wondered if it was safe to store the camera with the adapter ring fitted.

Re: Olympus TG5/6 Accessory Help Please

I have both attachments on my TG-5.

I have the CLA-T01 adapter that I've had for some time. I would attach a 40.5 to 49mm step-up ring and a generic lens cap to provide protection for the lens when the camera is thrown into my luggage. I don't use filters or the TCON-T01 extender, but if I did, the CLA-T01 would be needed for these.

I also have a steampunk modification for the TG-5 (TG-2 originally) where I got a small wooden box that looks like a suitcase, and the CAL-T01 allows me to attach the camera to the box, and I can put a lens hood on it, to sort of resemble a bellows.

I recently got the JJC clone version of the LB-T01 that I now attach to the camera when I'm not using it in the steampunk box. I much prefer the LB-T01 over the CLA-T01 plus lens cap. It takes up less space and you don't have the lens cap either dangling on a strap or put in your pocket to hopefully remember to reattach. In the past, I've had lens caps come off, particularly when the TG-5 is just tossed in the luggage unprotected.

<edit>

In terms of other cameras, I never use a 'UV' filter anymore. These were hang overs from shooting film. UV filters helped because film is more sensitive to UV rays above human perception, and you could reduce haze by blocking the UV rays.

On some lenses I do use the modern protection filters that are optically clear and are multi-coated to reduce flare. In general, I tend to only use the protection filters on my lenses that are splash resistant, because it is easier to clean the filter than the lens (this is both for rain as well as mud). I no longer use filters on non-splash resistant lenses. In the past, I tended to use B+W MRC protection filters, now I tend to use Marumi DHG protection filters.
