Attempt to DIY a beamsplitter stuck at double image

A question for those who specialize in optics.

I'm trying to build a 3D beamsplitter, and the worst problem is image duplication/ghosting that usually occurs on one side.

The geometry is classical - like SKF1, but mirrors aren't horizontally parallel - angle between internal mirrors is larger than that between external ones.

I'm using thin mirrors (~1.1mm). I don't see surface defects on the mirrors themselves. It's not wind/movement/etc.

Constructive ideas are appreciated.

Regards,
Oleg.

I think you need first surface mirrors

Yes, first surface mirrors throughout are a must.

I have a small rig which has two 'first surface mirrors ' positioned in a similar way to the rig mentioned above. I put it in front of the lens of my camera and half of the image was via the two mirrors and the other half was direct ( ie no mirrors in the path of the image) . I took a photo and cropped out the parts of the image I wanted and aligned it in Stereo Photo Maker and produced this cross-view image. Notice there is no double parts on the edges. The mirrors were made by Edmund Optics.

I am trying to acquire 1st surface mirrors.

But I still doubt they solve all the problems, Why do I usually observe image duplication only on one side? I made several units, and one problematic side is the most frequent outcome.

The formula with 4 mirrors is without problems.
