T7i: can I get the focal length to display?
1

I have just acquired a T7i, this is my first Canon camera and I'm working though how to set it up.

I'm using it with a Canon zoom lens (EF 17-40 F4). Is there a way I can get the current focal length to display on the touch screen?

Did you receive a manual with your T7i

Marie,

No, I don't think so.

Do you know how to transfer photos from your camera to a computer?

There is a free image viewing and editing program called Irfanview.

If you transfer a photo from your camera to your computer and open it up with that software program, and hit the letter e, it will bring up a little dialog box that gives you some information like the shutter speed and the aperture you used, etc. You can also find the focal length.

Does your lens have little markings on the side that lets you know how much you have zoomed in? With a crop camera like yours, multiply the focal length by 1.6, and you will know what the relative focal length is. If your lens is set at 40mm, your relative focal length is 64mm. If your lens is set at 17mm, your relative focal length is 27.2mm.

I did. I find it to be useless, with possibly the most ridiculous "index" I have ever seen.

Marie,

I'll pass along a tip that was given to me.

Download the pdf file and use the search function in Adobe Acrobat.

It changed my life
