Very nice set, but they would have been significantly (2 full stops+) cleaner at DR100 with optimal exposure. DR400 won't change the contrast significantly, try setting the highlight tone at -1 or -2 instead (or try D Range Priority).

Thanks much!

I do have -1 highlights as a default setting in my cam. I tried DRP but iirc things looked unrealistically flat & doesn't DRP require some higher ISO headroom just like DRx00?

No, DRP only adjusts highlight and shadow values within the tone curves menu, working together with whatever DR parameters you have set. It does tend to flatten the look.

How cold was it? A quick Google suggests pretty warm. Klister even?

Saturday started at 10 deg F and warmed to maybe 30 and sunny.

Sunday was a bit warmer but with clouds.

The biathletes skate so no klister.

I don’t think this is correct. Engaging DRP grays out the DR100/200/400 setting. And DRP Weak will set the starting iso to 320 and Strong, 640. I don’t see a way to adjust DR separately from DRP.

Of course! I never skied enough to learn to skate, but I did wonder if it might help when the wax wasn’t working. Skin skis now of course.

So not that cold so the batteries would not hold up.

I shoot raw with awb. Then in captureone i set one image correct and then copy this to all similar ones in the series.
