I wanted to try a larger sensor camera, particularly for low light street, and after a lot of handwringing I opted for the X100V. One of reasons I chose it is because a camera with a built-in lens would not plant a seed for lens GAS which I *KNEW* I would succumb to and I did not want to end up with two systems. Plus there was the very real fear of me replacing my m43 gear with a physically larger system which I knew I would end up regretting.

I don't have any fear of dropping MFT. I have too much MFT gear and it satisfies my needs so well -- bodies of all different sizes, great selection of lenses, more than adequate IQ for my purposes.

I also don't want two systems. I don't want to spend the money on a bunch of lenses, have to store another set of gear, and have to choose between them all the time. (But I'll admit that the bundle deal Panasonic was recently offering on the S5, 20-60, and 85 f/1.8 was attractive.)

APSC sensor might make a bit of a difference, but the allure of the X100V for me is more in other respects. Compact size, simplicity of non-interchangeable lens, opportunity to sort of return to a bygone era of shooting with all the physical dials, play with Fuji's film modes, check out the dual viewfinder, just have a new, fun experience with a camera.

Yeah, size and function could be approximated with my GX7 and 20mm, as OP shows, but I expect the X100V would be different enough in those other ways to maybe justify the cost. Or maybe it's just GAS.

The other camera that appeals to me in a similar way (but with more emphasis on sensor size and resolution) is the Leica Q2. So the X100V might be a way to scratch that itch. Or maybe it would be a gateway drug!

i bought the X100 2nd hand as i always fancied one and saw one at a bargain price, i've never regretted it and used quite a lot over the years, it looks well used as well, it's one of those cameras you'll either love or hate

Re: Update 2022

Hey, the "V" finally caught up with the GX7's tilting LCD from 2013!

I've read reviews and articles since the original version came out, and it really does seem like the "V" got a lot of things right.

Yeah, it was the tilting screen that finally made the X100V an practical street camera for me.

Re: Update 2022

Thanks, guys!  I just re-ordered an X100V.  Hopefully it will come in and get shipped to me before anything causes me to change my mind again.
