New Panasonic firmware released 1st March 2022
6

I just visited the Panasonic firmware page and saw updates for GH5M2 and G9 and a number of lenses.

https://av.jpn.support.panasonic.com/support/global/cs/dsc/download/index.html

Camera changes:

  1. When using LUMIX Tether on macOS, LUMIX Tether crashes. This bug has been fixed.
  2. When using LUMIX Tether on Windows OS, Rec Quality setting in Motion Picture cannot be changed. This bug has been fixed.

Lens changes:

  1. It is possible to control AF operation by pressing the shutter button halfway, or by pressing the AF-ON button, when [200.00p] is set in high frame rate video mode.
  2. [Focus Ring Control] is available by this firmware update. (in case of the usage of Camera with this function)
  3. Improved AF performance in FPS 24p mode(24.00p/23.98p).
    - Compatible products as of March 1st, 2022 : DC-GH6/DC-GH5M2

And annoyingly the first version of the 25mm 1.4.

I'd happily give them more money for a 25mm 1.2 built like the Olympus one with an aperture ring but can't bring myself to spend money on the same thing again with marginally newer electronics only.

Happy for linear focussing on the Nocti though, when that didn't come with the others last year feared the electronics in it wouldn't support that.

Only the first item on the lens list is in the new firmware . The other 2 items are in a previous release 100-400. This could vary depending on the lens.

Some lenses did not have point 2 linear focus some did so it will vary

Re: New Panasonic firmware released 1st March 2022

All 3 of my lenses covered by these new firmwares are now updated, unlikely to be any negative aspect so I usually update to the latest version quite soon after release.

I now have to hope that the linear focus feature makes it into other Panasonic bodies, I have a G90 and a GX9 which would benefit from this, it makes a huge difference in my G9.

I also hope that the linear focus update makes it to more lenses, in particular the H-FSA14140 which has never had a firmware update at all since it became available 3 years ago.

Not much to ask is it?

I have a G95 and agree that a firmware update to add linear focusing would be great. It's still a current model so I guess there is hope!

Yes, I am surprised that the 14-140mm didn't receive an update, given that it's stablemate the 12-60mm did receive an update.

Hopefully we can we aren't stuck to program auto for 120fps either.

Also in 120fps it would be nice to see autofocus.  My g100  has 120fps autofocus, it's too bad the g95, g9, and gh5 can't do that!

Do I miss something? G9 has 240 fps autofocus - if lens can handle it. Or am I wrong?

As far as I know, neither one is available on the g9. Autofocus is not available in slow-motion. Also I think the maximum frame rate is 180 fps, not 240fps.

Now you have me interested. I had a g100 first, and it has AF (in 120fps). I got a g95 to have IBIS for non OIS lenses, and was disappointed there was no 120fps AF.

What is the firmware version you are suggesting brings 240fps and AF to VFR mode, on the G9? Could you share the source of this information, if you have found it.

My bad - you are correct, I misunderstood what you meant. I thought you are talking about 120/240x/s step controlling AF motor. That is a problem with some older lens design which is unable to communicate with camera body at this frequency.

Actually my bad for replying semi off topic to your comment.

I was replying to complain about the AF, because it likely could be put into a firmaware update, especially since it exists in such a lower model (g100).
