Re: LO res. sd1m files very sharp

As soon as I opened this I thought "Hmm...looks very "SD9-ish".  What do you attribute it  to?

Another Merrill Lo-res image, developed from lo-res raw.

Merrill lo-res is great, and quite like I've seen from the SD9.

Wow. I decomposed this image and extracted the finest detail level (1px) to be greeted by the best DOF I've seen (absolutely everything in focus) and just look at the color definition!!!

DP3M roolz, OK.

Good. What exactly was the problem?

I ask because the thread says "files very sharp" but most of the above image is soft on my computer.

I could easily post a picture that was more sharp but whats the point?

There is a big misunderstanding by some of us, judging by the responses. You started a thread that said in the title "files very sharp" and posted a mostly soft image as an example.

Is your only problem exactly "LO res. sd1m files very sharp" and no more?

OK, you refuse to answer the question but at least you did post another image:

Yes, the image is "very sharp" but it is not over-sharp.

The edge response has no overshoot (no halos).

An MTF50 of 0.360 c/p is excellent but the response at more than Nyquist means that there will aliasing visible BUT only for repetitive scene items in excess of 25 lp/mm.

Your camera/lens is excellent. I envy you!

Your title says that at LO resolution, the files are very sharp.  I would handle this by using the LO resolution setting.

please show examples or I can find answers on google myself

I don't have examples to show, but I found a related advantage to using either medium or low resolution raw files with my SD14; at higher ISO settings, the images were cleaner, less noise or blotching.

Looks super! Have to try low res on my DP2m. I really like low res on my dp3 quattro.

Here is a low/hi comparison
1

Hand-held at 320 (low res); 250 (hi res) and braced against wall. Low es shot appears richer and more detail and  more contrast.

hi res

hi res downsized and some contrat added

low res
