I own the R and know what it can and cannot do reliably and the RP isn't any more capable than it. Shooting fast moving target is a VERY hit and miss (a lot more misses than hits) proposition for it. How many people who are into BIF shooting use the R or RP? I would wager very few. The OP says she likes to shoot BIF and wants improvement in this area when she chooses a new camera. Recommending the R or the RP will not provide this to her. IMO, her best option is an APS-C camera based on her needs and budget. You may not agree. If you don't like my opinion then give her your opinion on what she should consider instead of critiquing mine.

Given other people's success using the R and RP, it seems the best advice we can give the OP is, whatever camera she gets, learn to use it better than MikeJ9116 does.

Keep in mind the people you talk to at the store may have a different agenda than you do.

I have both the R and R6, two different cameras. I use the R for portraits/landscapes and the R6 for things that move. You can see the difference between the 2 in IQ but you have to look for it.

When I picked up the R6 my plan was to sell the R. The R really is a good camera, I could not sell it

I bought the R6 because the R did not work out for auto racing. So when the R6 was announced I pre-ordered. The focus on the R was a bit slow for auto cross that my daughter and son in law were doing, About the same time my R6 came in we became grand parents and no autocross for a few years. Maybe this summer

Oh of course they do! Profit margins, moving stock and spiffs that may be available. I used to sell computers and remember those days.

I also use to autox and took pix with my old 35mm - fun times!

Some interesting commentary back and forth here! Financially I'm really leaning towards the RP. No matter what, it's a huge improvement over the SX50. I will likely give it a few weeks before deciding for sure.

Thanks for all the input - and feel free to give more if you'd like!

I think I am able to get better results with M3 and body cap on than he with R and 70-200.

I'm expecting proof of that.

And I own the RP and it takes very nice pictures of still or slow subjects with very good focus. However, if I go birding - or hunting butterflies - I still grab 7D MkII. For those RP is unbalanced, has difficult UI and the viewfinder lag makes it too difficult to even find - let alone - follow birds or to keep focus on the smaller critters. For basic photography the much maligned sensor on RP is way better than the one in 7D MkII.

How's the rumor mill doing? I was expecting Canon to release something this month with the EOS anniversary, but haven't see anything other than lenses!

Got it!

I bit the bullet and ordered it the other day, just came in this morning. It's a chilly and cloudy day, but I sat outside for a bit and waited for birds . I haven't really set anything and took a few shots in Auto and TV, and tried to do similar with my SX50 for comparison. I am thoroughly pleased with the IQ improvement! While these aren't stellar pix, I'm sure you can see what I mean. The first is the SX50.

There is indeed a certain difference in the amount of details when looking at full size.
