Help me with adapters.

Hello guys, I'm coming back to you again with all sorts of weird questions.

I currently have Olympus E-1 with M digital 14-54 mm f2.8-3.5

I would like to upgrade it by purchasing Olympus E-pl6 or Olympus e-pl5 but I have no clue what kind of adapter I should get? As far as I understand Olympus E-1 has 4/3 mount so for the PEN I need M4/3? I always get lost in these numbers, don't want to buy something that wont fit, and I hope someone can help me, thank you

good question

on my 14-54 I have a movo adapter which works.

or you can get an official olympus adapter would likely work.

sadly, I have to discourage other brands unless you really have to know they work as well.

my other four thirds adapter is useless on my olympus body.

Re: good question

Thank you very much, also if you don't mind maybe you could please tell me would it be a good option to buy? They are very cheap in my country, and I want a camera with live view mode, I'm currently contacting a person for Olympus E pl6 and don't want to make a mistake. Also I like manual focus lenses a lot, It would be awesome if there would be an option to put on Olympus E pl6, thank you!

Re: Help me with adapters.

Olympus made three adaptors for Four thirds to micro four thirds cameras - MMF-1, MMF-2 and MMF3 and Panasonic made one the DMW- MA1.  I think these are probably only available used.  There are a lot of cheaper adaptors for FT to mFT, some do not work very well especially for wide angle lenses.  You can probably find reviews of these online.

I have that lens also and use it with an Olympus MMF3 adapter which I bought used before the eBay overpriced madness that exists now.

That lens needs a camera with PDAF to give a reasonable AF speed and neither the epl6 or epl5 have that capability but a camera that does is the original EM1.

So if you are set on either the epl6 or epl5 then I suggest you purchase a used 12-50mm f3.5-6.3 and though it is not as fast it will certainly be more suitable for your proposed camera and cost little more than the price of the mmf3.

Thank you very much.

I think I'll consider other cameras. Not sure where to say, it would be my 3rd camera and would like to stay in one brand. Have an offer for Fuji X-m1 without a lens, for 100 euros, not sure should I take it not though

If your 14-54mm is mki, it needs a body with PDAF sensor. The mkii is CDAF optimised and will work with the bodies you mention.  I’d get a used EM1.1 in your position.  Mine often has a 14-54mm mki on it with an MMF1.

It’s getting increasingly difficult to buy Olympus and Panasonic FT to MFT adapters.

The MMF1 is metal but not weathersealed. The MMF3 is plastic but weathersealed.

Re: Help me with adapters.

Thank you very much for in-depth answer.

I'm really reconsidering getting something completely different, but not sure which way to go, there's some Fuji X-m1, a canon m100.

I'm just looking for something that has lcd with liveview so I can use some prime lens that is capable of some low light photography. When I had Sony A3000 with manual prime lens it was capable of that but I made huge mistake selling it...

Handheld or tripod?  What kind of lens?

If you want to adapt the 4/3 lens, you have to use the m4/3. It won't adapt to apsc.

If you just want to use old manual primes from film, then a simple adapter to m4/3 will work with any body.

I’d just add that the OP can get an MF1 (not to be confused with the MMF1) to adapt zuiko lenses to their E1…

And let’s face it that, Kodak sensor in the E1 can produce wonderful colours and is better for low light using ISO 100 as standard.

You should be able to use a manual lens on a pen body,

I would prefer a viewfinder for focus confirmation, but it is not needed.

good luck,  I recently got a pl9 camera and it is a good walk around camera for me.
