X-S10 external microphone advice needed.

I am new to the Fuji X system (via 40 years of Pentax, M43 and Nikon Z). I have a XS10 and lenses on order but they will probably take a few weeks to arrive.

It appears Fuji warn that microphones that need power from the camera will not work on any X bodies. There are also You Tube videos saying that they do. So my question is...

Does anyone with an X-S10 have a cheapish small camera mounted external mic with no batteries that they can confirm works as a combo?

I just tested with my Comica CVM-VM10II mic and it definitely works fine!

I'm pretty darn sure that the XS10 is just like the XT4 with mic input. I have used the Movo vxr10 a bunch which is cheap and amplified by the on board preamps of the camera. What you might be seeing referred to is that the camera can not power a microphone. Aka, the kind of mic that requires 48v phantom power. Power and amplification are two different things.

Side note, the Sennheiser MKE 400 v2 is only $200 and delivers a fantastic price to quality ratio. Even though the camera can amplify the signal from the mic doesn't mean that you want it to. The preamps in cameras are terrible and noisy. Having a mic that provides its own power makes a world of difference. The Movo vxr10 is the only cheap non powered mic I'd even come close to recommending. It's significantly more sensitive than most mics of that design like the video micro which is twice the price. More sensitive means less preamp from the camera needed which equals a better signal to noise ratio. Cheap mics are honestly a waste of money. Some things you can get away with spending a lot less and can get pretty close to higher end results. An on board shotgun just isn't one of those things. Spending a could hundred bucks will save you a lot of frustration in the long run.

Thanks for the advice. I think your right I am confused. As much as I would like a high end mic this is just for messing about with for now so not willing to part with a lot of cash untill I see how much it gets used. Your reply has really helped me to understand this so thanks again.
