Nice

Do you still use both?

Do you prefer one over the other?

Do you have lenses for either that are unique fl's that make one system more likely to be chosen for specific shots?

Cheers!

Re: Always up to date!

Both are great camera of their time.

The only difference could be their shooting enevlop. If we can shoot within their limit, they could produce good result.

I still love GX7 and don't want to retire it.

Try to shoot GX7 at ISO6400, without a good pp it could be very noisy (a pixel peeper here? But it is the true performance of the sensor!). Not sure the Nikon but likely it should do better. It is their difference.

You have started the thread with D600, but this is sample from D500
Could you pls do one like this - D600(12800) D500(6400) GX7(3200) with something in the frame that has more texture (but not prints with offset patterns) and something with smooth surfaces (color patches mb)
thank you

Re: Always up to date!

These are comparisons of my personal collection.
I think there are enough examples right now to get a good idea.

Lumix GX7 / Nikon D500 100% (25600 ISO)

What do you think of the comparison and the result?

TBH the noise condition (I wish they are SOOC JPG or if RAW, be limited to default conversion of the RAW converter) of both are not happy to me.

Having said that, the above suggested that D500 did better than GX7, I expect something around 2 stops or more? Upon the above, I would guess ISO6400 of D500 might produce some reasonably good cleaning image SOOC (to my level of expectation).

On my experience on GX7 (my main camera 2015-2019) I would put GX7 at ISO1600 (SOOC JPG having NR=0). ISO3200 from GX7 would have to shoot RAW and do quite extensive NR in PP. YMMV.

I don't have any sample available immediately from GX7, but the following is the noise condition of GX85 (SOOC JPG) @ISO3200 that I could take (in my humble experience GX7 can do 1 stop lower because of its older JPG engine) for your reference:

I wish you could find my requirement on the smoothness and level of noise. I hate to have my image on a coarse sand paper.

YMMV

Happy shooting .

Re: Always up to date!

I never shoot at ISO 25600 for real.
It's just for an extreme comparison (for personal information)
The quantity and quality of light plays a lot on the variables and ISO tolerance

Nikon D3s (2009) / Nikon D500 (2016) ISO
https://www.flickr.com/photos/maoby/albums/72157714674997917

Here at 6400 iSO, the D3s is acceptable to me

Nikon D3s (6400 ISO) / Nikon D500 (6400 ISO) 100%

For the D500 my limit is closer to 1600 ISO

Nikon D3s (1600 ISO) / Nikon D500 (1600 ISO) 100%

Obviously, all the photos are taken in RAW and unprocessed.

Re: Always up to date!

Thank you for your info.

As per the posted sample, it seems that the ISO1600 from D3S is looking quite happy to me.

But is curious on the D500 Output... I am no longer shooting with Nikon after doing digitalization, but always expect a later sensor could win over an older sensor despite FF has 1 stop advantage over APSC...

Re: Always up to date!

For a long time, innovations have been much more on the side of treatment software.
Curiously in my comparisons, I often appreciate more the older models of cameras!
And I don't really like the "too digital" look.
