Got A T3i & 18-55 & 55-250 for $150, Questions
1

I just got a perfectly working Canon T3i and 18-55 IS and 55-250 IS and it only cost $150 for all of it. That's crazy cheap.

I already have a Nikon Z50 kit and a Sony RX100 III and prefer mirrorless to SLRs these days, but my snapshooting wife sometimes prefers to use a real camera but doesn't discriminate between current vs older models, plus also I've been hankering to try to get into street photography but have been concerned about hostile people damaging my camera. Having only paid $150 for it (I paid closer to $700 for my Z50), I won't be so concerned, I figure.

One question I have (I've used SLRs enough I don't figure on having any issues figuring this model out), I know this doesn't have any phone connectivity built in, but would a Toshiba WiFi card or such work with this? The auto everything AF, I know it won't have face detect, but is it decent otherwise?

Thanks for any tips.

Larry,

As I understand it, the Canon T3i does not have either Wifi or bluetooth, and Canon does not guarantee 3rd party cards. Opinions on the Eye-fi cards vary.

Your best option seems to be USB cable transfer of photos.

I can't answer your questions about the WIFI etc.  But maybe I can offer you some tips or suggestions for street photography.

I have an older Canon T3i (600D) camera that I haven't used for a long time.  Now, I'm using Canon T7i (800D) or Canon M50 cameras for street photography.  I often pull out the LCD screen and twist it, so that I can take the pictures that way at short focal lengths without pointing the camera directly at people at eye-level.  I can also use a telephoto lens if there is a good background, so that confrontations are also avoided that way.  I don't know if you can use the Canon T3i (600D) with the LCD screen as I can with the Canon T7i (800D) camera.  Again, it's been a long time...I can't remember.

My suggestion with street photography, is to go with someone else that also understands the laws of what is legal and acceptable or not.  When I go by myself I have found myself hassled sometimes (very rarely but it happens) but when I go with someone else, they are less likely to bully me for taking photos in a public place (almost never).  It's just something that I have noticed over the years  that when we are alone we are a target.  So you may want to go out with your wife on those occasions for street photography.  Yes, we want to be safe and not worry about someone damaging our cameras etc.

Oh, also...congratulations on getting a camera and lens set for such a low price.  I'm sure you'll enjoy them.

IMO, the best option for transferring files from camera to computer is a USB card reader (they're cheap). I just pop the memory card out of the camera and into the card reader, and then copy/paste the files from the reader (which appears a another drive) to wherever I want on the computer.

Yes,at home I will absolutely do that. I was more asking about sharing possibilities while out and about. I know the T3i has no native sharing abilities.

I have a Rebel t3i/600d.

The articulating screen is the same as the 800d (apart from it's not touch-sensitive).
