Hi,

It was quite the deal back then. Nikon drops the older 4xx design for the F5 based 6xx one. And Nikon quits the collaboration with Fuji and the E series (DS5xx line over at Fuji) for the D1. And Canon wasn't far behind dropping the Kodak 5xx (as the D2000 and D6000) for their own 1D.

The only problem is, the lowest price tag was $5000 and that was the D1. Hard to get given it was so low cost. IIRC, the 2 MP Kodak's were $10k and the 6MP ones were $25k. I recall thinking 'why get a D1 when I could have an F5? Ah. A $5k difference. And look at the cost for 6MP! Sheesh!'

Nowadays, folks complain about the price of a D6 or a Z9. All I see is pretty priced as per usual.

Yes, at the beginning of digital, DSLR prices were astronomical and inaccessible to the vast majority.
I could only dream of the near future, where prices would become more reasonable.
And that was the arrival of the Canon EOS-300D / Digital Rebel in 2003 which finally paved the way!
We know the rest...

Thank you very much for your feedback, and good photos!
